We now have a director of football or whatevs so it’ll be him getting “computer sez no” from now on anyway.

Why is our head coach going around arranging transfers without prior approval from the Director of Football & board? He bloody well should look daft for overstepping his authority like that. Sounds like ******** though.

I would suspect it’s more a case of he asked if he was available as a general enquiry, it then went through the process.
Unlikely with Bobby doing the DoF role he was trying to bypass the system.

Im told he was a player we looked at but the rest is complete nonsense . We have data on every player you can imagine. Even players in the Premier League 2 (u21s)

That’s fine Gally. I wouldn’t post it if it was nonsense but you crack on mate. I’m not one to make stuff up.

You've been on here long enough to know that any criticism - direct or implied - of anyone with the surname Cryne will be immediately jumped on and ridiculed.

Fans slagging the board, manager and even saying we need to get rid of people, all based on... absolutely fook all with zero evidence to boot. Typical.

Criticism is fine. But to do so on a paragraph on a fans forum with no proof or anything? Makes no sense to me.

With respect a named Source would help. Else it's just another rumour.

Simple. Quote a source that's credible and checkable and people will take it seriously. There's a lot on here who love to make 5 out of 2+2 based on pure hearsay and speculation and who also love a conspiracy theory.

If it's someone from within the organisation then it will compromise their position, so he's unlikely to be able to quote the the source. Which you well know.

There's plenty of posters on here who post a lot of unfounded speculation and kneejerk criticism. Journo has a history of sensible posting spanning many years, and isn't in that category.

Yeah there's no way anyone with any connection to the club gives away their sources - otherwise someone will be in for a reyt bollocking.

That's why any sports news channel always say "sources suggest" instead of "Gary the Kitman has told me....."

If we can find enough data to decide to sign MdG from the third tier of French football I'd hazard a guess we know of the Ireland u21s skipper.

It’s hilarious that people expect sources for stuff like this. Do you honestly think that if you get such a specific piece of information like this that you’re going to reveal your source on a public forum?

obviously I had nothing better to do on a Sunday afternoon than make up a rumour from a previous transfer window about a player they’d never heard of.

Anyway, I’ll delete the thread in a bit. I can see how other posters that used to post bits of info stopped bothering because folk don’t believe you and think you have some sort of weird ulterior motive behind it.

I don't think for a second you've made this up. Someone has told you and you've passed on that information.

Is what you've been told correct? I have no idea. What gives it some credibility is that the data on Joe Hodge would be somewhat limited, so at least he fits into that description. He's played very little professional football and hasn't previously been out on loan.

@Gally claims we have "data on every player you can imagine. Even players in the Premier League 2 (u21s)". As far as I'm aware collecting data on players in the professional game is a business. Games are watched, data is recorded, collated and sold. We're a customer buying that data. But the games covered don't extend down to the jumpers for goalposts games I play in the park. There isn't data on every player. There will be a hard cut-off and games below a certain level will have no data above and beyond who played, who scored and who was cautioned/sent off. And I would imagine there will be some levels where there is some data but nothing like what you get for games in the premier league where multiple cameras and GPS Vests tack every pass, tackle and run.

Does that mean the info is correct? No, just passes the initial plausibility test.

It's up to us whether we believe it or not. Can't understand the need to get angry with you about it either way.

Ignore those claiming you have to name a source. Of course you can't, that should go without saying. Hard to believe some people think that's a valid criticism.

Maybe, but OP says the player had agreed and Collins had arranged it, and quite honestly I just don't believe it. Mostly because it's not Collins' place to arrange anything, but if it was as you say and he'd simply asked through his contacts if Hodge was available then I don't see why the board would overrule a loan due to lack of data (which is also doubtful) since worst case scenario is that he goes back in four months. Unless there's more to it and we simply don't want to go down the loan route, but if that's so how do we explain McAtee, McCart and Roberts? It just sounds like half truth at best.

Collins also instigated the McAtee deal.

Collins had 4 years at Wolves, it's highly likely he still has contacts there.
