Started feeling crap around new years eve after my missus was the most ill I've seen her in a while, started with cold symptoms and lasted 5 days and started getting better, until 2 week ago today started with a cough to point where on the Tuesday could hardly speak, still a bit left now but finally over last 2 days been able to sleep without waking up coughing every hour.

Anyone feeling bad who has felt bad in the past had the flu jab? It's worth having even if you think you're fit, healthy and invincible.

On day 2 of a hideous dry cough. Coughed myself sick a couple of times. My back/ ribs are in agony.
Supposed to be playing football in Cardiff on Saturday. As it is I can’t decide if I’m hot or cold, and I’m struggling to sleep. Dodgy stomach to cap it off.
Words of encouragement needed. I can’t do 98 more days of this. :-(

Not really had a cough only a tickly one a few weeks ago but randomly I have had a letter today saying I’ve been exposed to whooping cough, I can only assume it’s when I was in hospital the other week?

Oh, crap. Sorry you’ve got it now, Fired. Rest seems to really help, I always felt better on a Monday after the weekend. Just take it easy and expect it to keep teasing you with improvements before it evolves and hits you again. It seems to last 3-4 weeks according to everyone I know (except Will who was only badly for a week).

Can’t work the state I’m in currently.
I’m no wimp, but the pain in my ribs and the constant coughing are awful.
Chuck in some heartburn/ indigestion, and I honestly don’t know how to get to sleep. Looks like I might take up watching tv in front of the fire in the middle of the night.

Well @Mido @RedfearnsRocket @TitusMagee , even though I've had a bronchoscopy about 15 years ago and even though I remember it being totally fine, your comments have been at the back of my mind for the last couple of weeks. I had it done this afternoon. Blood hell it was horrible. I'm not sure what they gave me first time round or if I've just blocked it out of my mind but it's pretty bloody unpleasant. Good news was they didn't find anything untoward although there are some lab tests that have to come back from some flushes they did well in my lungs (again very unpleasant - was coughing like mad for a good hour when they'd done with me.)

I tore an intercostal muscle sat on the side of the bed one morning last November with this retched cough so be careful. Took weeks to heal and was in agony every time I coughed. (which was most of the time :( ) I actually felt it tear. Not good.

Poor you! It’s bad enough without a muscle tear.
There’s just no way of controlling the cough though.

Glad it was positive on the news front! Im just at the Glassworks about to get an x ray to see if my lung has reinflated. Had to get a second course of antibiotics last week, apparently gp shouldn't have prescribed the first batch for what I had. Doxycycline seems to have done the trick this time though thank god.

I’ve got something now, but I have got phlegm. Benylin dry cough is best I could come up with. Hope it’s not 100 days though.

Main news is that you’re alright, but it’s a pretty rank experience.

It's awful really feel for you, I'm about 6 weeks in it's eased alot but still present, the wife has thrown up a few times with coughing bouts.
Aldi do a green tea with lemon and ginger, I'm not really one for flavoured tea but this with a large spoon of honey in, plenty of Vicks on the chest and back helped.
Someone earlier in this thread suggested coding based painkillers i took cocodamol and these also helped.

Thank you. Co codamol would have to be a last resort - i have psycho nightmares when I’m on that!
Not a fan of herbal teas either but Vick is by the bed!

The only source of comfort currently is a got water bottle aNd a hot bath.

Sorry to buck the trend. I thought I had succumbed to the 100 day cough. Had it about 3 weeks. And nowt since. Hope it gives hope to some of you. :)

About five weeks for me just after New Year, Fired. Felt like it was lurking right at the top of my chest but coughing was what the doctors describe as 'unproductive'. Got headaches and lightheadedness with the coughing in the early stages. It goes, but slowly!

As an aside, does anyone know what the arrangements are for oversight of GP practices in the Barnsley area now the CCG's are gone? Is it easy to transfer? I am convinced that my own GP's do not have a functioning appointments system having tried to access it during the illness.

Started in November and had X-ray done and phlegm tests..al came back clear despite feeling like I was dragging a half ton brick around..climbed East upper and nearly passed out through lack of breath...this despite normally being a regular 10 to 15 mile walker every week. now left with severe sinus issue and restricted hearing..getting refered to ENT by GP. no fun this...
