Always seems to be Lancashire/Cheshire clubs that end up like this. Macclesfield, Rochdale, Bolton, Wigan, Bury, Chester, Oldham, Stockport - all owned at one point or another by some charlatan that's got them liquidated, relegated to non league or, at best, a massive points deduction.
Really hope they get rescued. This is why it bothers me so much when people claim we have 9 million to spend because we sold players - ignoring the fact the board put in nearly 10 million the season prior. Clubs' fortunes can change massively over a year or 2.
Just read that Accrington are 1million in debt, they are putting season tickets up,food and drinks up,and chairman not putting anymore money in,and premier league players getting paid millions a year.
Happy memories of Rochdale.Having to complete the most lengthy form and then paying 10p to enter there social club. Two weeks later I received a green laminated card greeting me as a life member of Rochdale supporters club.Another time talking to Barry Murphy in the social club whilst buckets were placed to catch rain through the leaking roof. Clubs like Rochdale and indeed Barnsley are the life blood of our great game and long may they progress and hopefully prosper.
I suppose we were all saying similar things about Bury and Gigg Lane before they disappeared. The big clubs won’t give them a second thought.
Think thats a bit harsh on Rochdale - they've not been run the same way as Bury or Wigan - i.e deliberately beyond their means - they've lost Premier League solidarity money since dropping out of L3, are fan-based run, just trying to cut costs quicker then revenue drops is not always easy - look at ourselves for evidence of that - the board here have subsidised the club for a number of seasons, as did Cryne. Be a shame if they were to go under.
