That is a tough one, but actually I wouldn't say Johnson was as bad as the others mentioned. I've voted for Asbaghi, by the way.
Johnson shouldn’t be in that list. They were all terrible but I always choose Poya. Schopp was awful but at least he didn’t set out for a 0-0 at kick off.
With the players he had to work with, Id say Morais made a terrible mess of it. But he was just 1 goal & 1 minute away from keeping us up after all (based on Bolton winning their game very late on). And he was sacked wasn't he, almost immediately after that last match when we were relegated.
Awesome question. Asbaghi just beats Schopp for me. Unfair Johnson being put in that. We played some alright stuff under Morais at time. I remember battering Birmingham away and Brentford at home and thought we had a chance then that pathetic attempt at Derby happened. I couldn’t see what either Poya or Schopp was trying to do but Poya came across as a bit of a bell for me so he was worse on that.
Johnson sent us on one of the worst runs ever in the 3rd tier that we were threatened with 4th division football. This with a squad containing Hourihane, Winnall etc
Poya had to work with a team absolutely devoid of any confidence as a consequence of Schopp and his absolute lack of tactical nous or charisma. Poya set out to make us hard to beat but didn’t have the characteristics to instil belief in a team. Schopp was ghastly. Can’t think of anyone worse than him.
Johnson not even in the equation for me. But a tough call on the other 3. I've gone with Morais on the simple fact. When we were looking to be getting better as a team. He changed players, as in his words more or less. Were playing too many games and they needed resting. Warra nob. Dropping players who were at the top of their game. We needed a settled side. Not swapping and changing like he did.
I think Schopp was just the absolute wrong man for the job, at the wrong time etc. Expectations were higher for us after the Ismael season, but there were all sorts of things going on and rumours of arguments behind the scenes. Its despicable what Conway & co did to the club that season, and sadly most of the players seemed to just give up as well. Schopp wasn't good enough, but he was in an almost impossible situation.
Shocked Schopp isn't top. Don't think Klopp could have turned our season around when Poya arrived. Devoid of confidence. Didn't work out for Poya (captain obvious) but we were leaking goals and personally I think he tried to shut up shop, if you cant win, dont lose, etc. But was just too far gone. Company that with terrible football then it's nail in the coffin time. Close, but Schopp tops it for me.
Unbelievable that it was after the Ismael season. Even though I know it’s right I couldn’t believe it when I read your post.
Yeah he did, and that's why he shouldn't be on a list with those mentioned, because they are all associated with relegating us. In fact it pains me to say it, but maybe Wilson should be on there instead of Johnson.
So him getting us promoted to the top league for probably the only time in our history counts for nothing!?
Wilson should be on it. The question starts with 2014. He was horrendous for us. Arguably worse. Shame it ended that way as he’s our best ever manager which makes it forgivable. As much as Johnson shouldn’t be on it, I agree with some of the comments. If he would have been the one to take us up, I think the way he was and the style he wanted to play would have been a relegation on his CV back to League 1.
