Don't boo. don't clap. But the way he protested that throw in. was Bizzare. Linesman hadn't a clue. And ref got it spot on. I know he's their captain but got in refs ear. When 99% of the ground knew it was our ball.
But correct I believe, based on current rules. As for Hourihane, BFC lej. I'd not clap him during the game but he deserves respect, gave his all for us, and left with class. Absolutely does not deserve any booing or derogatory remarks.
How was it correct? The decision looked feasible, but the bit I didn't get was why they were taking the free kick in our half of the field.
The free kick in those circumstances is taken from where the offside player is when he becomes active in the game, so where McAtee challenges for the ball.
I'm with you then I found this. Law 11..offside rules. If an offside offence occurs, the referee awards an indirect free kick where the offence occurred, including if it is in the player's own half of the field of play. I'll gu tut foot of our stairs.
Wow! Since when? Theoretically you can be offside in your own penalty area in that case. That's utterly mental.
If you think about it, by today's offside rule, there is no offence until the offside player actively gets involved in the game (challenge for the ball, control ball etc), so the free kick is just taken from where the offence is committed. If a player is offside, but doesn't become active, there is no offence and the game plays on.
Respectfully disagree, I’m all for supporting players when they retire and getting them back to oakwell but when they’re playing against us it’s our 11 vs theirs. Happy to clap them after but in the game I’d want our fans on their backs like any other opposition player
Seemed strange but on reflection, he was in their half when the ball was played and ran back into our half to challenge for it. Do fair do's.
Think I've got it. So if he's running back into his own half from an offside position and then gets involved inside his own half, this is where the free kick is taken from. Interesting, never knew that. Guess it doesn't happen that often though (hence why I'd never seen it before in 35 years of watching football!)
That's what I've realised it was for. Strange incident but sounds like it was correct. Not that the officials got much else right!
