When my daughter started uni there 4 years ago she was at Greenbank. Whilst I was kicking my heels the day we moved her in, and her and Mrs Mac were deciding the important stuff like which makeup goes in which cupboard, she said to me why don't you walk round the corner and take a selfie where that famous Beatles record was about. 5 mins later I'm literally touching the glass encased Penny Lane street sign and frantically trying to work out how to take a selfie in mirror mode. 4 years, don't they grow up quick
Came here in 88 - wouldn't say it was a sh**hole but it has changed a lot and improved. John Lennon lived on Menlove Avenue where houses now go for around 400-500k. Very nice area and about a 10 minute walk from mine.
I teach at Greenbank Primary which is a 2 minute walk from there - nice area around there and spent many an hour in the Brookhouse Pub. I lived above the famous barber's shop on Penny Lane when I was at Uni - often open my curtains and find tourist's cameras pointing at the flat.
I thought it was lovely round there. Pleasant walk to Lark Lane too. She's left now but son lives near near Baltic market. I need to visit more.
Lark Lane is a brilliant place for a night out - some great bars/ cafes and restaurants round there. My step son lives near the Baltic by the Maccies - he loves it round there
The Brookhouse, is that the one on Smithdown Road that we used to pour into when we’d finished the Wavertree High Street pub crawl? If it is I’ve only ever been in there when I was still standing solely due to muscle memory!
Yes - High Street is dead now which is really sad! Smithdown has been rejuvenated the last few years and is really buzzing. Brookhouse is more for students but still very popular - when I was a student they did a three course Sunday lunch for a fiver - bargain!!!
