I was chatting with a couple of mates in the pub before Saturday’s game about Andy Gray’s lad, who seems to be doing well at Leeds. Andy himself is the son of ex-Leeds, Forest and Scotland player Frankie. So we had a think of a few more Reds players who are sons of ex-pros. Can we get a decent XI out of them? Here’s a few we came up with: Andy Gray (Frankie Gray) Cauley Woodrow (Martin Patching) Elliott Lee (Rob Lee) George Moncur (John Moncur) And of course we have Devante Cole (Andy Cole) knocking them in this season for us, and we also have the offspring of Bruce Dyer, Bobby Hassell and Rob Kozluk on the books. It can’t just be a team of attacking players though, so help me fill the team (and surely we can find 3 midfielders better than George Moncur!) GK RB LB CB CB CB MF - George Moncur MF MF S - Devante Cole S - Cauley Woodrow Andy Gray, David Hirst and Ian Banks are waiting in the wings for when we do a ‘Dads’ team!
Unfortunately I can’t help you much but I was surprised to see all of Neil Danns, Lee Clark & Jason Koumas’ sons in the same Liverpool squad.
I was once sat in the play area in Meadowhall, reading a magazine whilst my lad went tearing around the climbing frame. I was aware there was a bloke next to me, but us being blokes, we just ignored each other and carried on reading. Our two were the only kids in there and his lad came out before mine. As his dad was putting his coat on for him, the kid looked at my trainers, which looked like a pair of old football boots and said “football boots”. I smiled and looked up and it’s at this point I realised I’d been sat next to Grant McCann for an hour without saying a word to him. D’oh! Presumably the little kid is the one now in our Academy.
