I agree in the cases of Chelsea, Everton, Nottingham Forest and Man City. How can a governing body penalise somebody for spending "their own" money? It's ludicrous.

A crap rule that needs ditching. It's stopping smaller clubs bridging the gap.

 

Put simply, they CAN spend their own money if it's "Gifted" in some way is how I understand it and don't expect it back per-se.

Many owners have lumped debts in clubs in a way that it screws clubs over when these owners decide they get fed up of spending. They bugger off and leave these large debts to be cleared up by the next owners (and expect there money back), or fall into admin.

As directors or owners, they have a responsibility to safeguard a business (legally) and by opting for the debt route in the 2nd paragraph, is at odds with the law on responsible directorship (if that's a word).

Nobody is stopping owners pumping money in, just that they can't label it in a way that leaves them with large debts/losses. Think, giving someone money (gift) as apposed to a loan (debt)

Hopefully I have that right anyway. I'm sure our accountant friendly folk will correct me if I'm wrong.

I think these are all "test cases" of sorts right now.

For example, it's clear in the EFL that admin = X points etc.

The fact is that proving losses and the timing of with all the accounting wizardry that goes off takes time. And no real president has been set with the "losses over 3 years". So whatever the eventual outcome of all this is likely to shape future years. And yet more accountancy wizardry....

Exactly. The daughter of a good friend of mine used to work for the EFL and has certainly intimated that there is a "big club" bias at that institution. Portsmouth, Derby and Bolton, I am sure, are all regarded as bigger clubs than Barnsley, which might be seen as a cause for concern for us.

 

If they have broken the rules they should be punished. However I think the rules are stupid. If a wealthy owner wants to pump money into a business then so be it.
Rules to stop this saddling clubs with debt would be the way I would go.
