The petrol at the pumps with the additives in, do they do any good at all. Or is a dose of the redex cleaner better?
I don't know if it's still the same case, but years ago they used to say that the premium petrol doesn't have any effect on 'non performance' cars.
No idea mines Diesel. I do use Redex on occasion as mi son swears by it. But not every fill. A handy selection of fuel additives will even target several areas of an engine, improving overall health and even increasing performance. Another good example is E10 fuel (uses at least 10% ethanol) and the danger it poses to older engines.31 Jan 2024 There are undoubtedly benefits to using premium fuel in your car. The higher the octane number, the more power gets delivered to your engine – meaning that you're really making the most of every drop of petrol. It also, theoretically, results in a healthier engine over time, due to later ignitions from the fuel itself.14 Nov 2022 https://www.kwik-fit.com › blog
They don’t, you won’t notice the slightest bit of difference in a bog standard car. Premium unleaded is only worth having if you’re after slight gains in performance, and the only time you would notice any gain is if you’re driving something with significant power, IE BMW M3, Audi RS6 etc
Apart from the fact the fuel is ‘cleaner’ the only real benefit is your engine will be in better condition long term than if you use normal fuel. But that creates the debate about do you pay extra for the long term benefit given it’s unlikely you’ll keep the car long enough to outweigh the costs of the fuel.
Premium fuels are only needed with vehicles with high compression ratios. The Octane rating is a measure of how much the fuel can be compressed without igniting.
