I remember like yesterday, telling mi mate how $hite Andy Rammell was, when we played West Ham in FA Cup. The commentator is magical.
I used to travel all over the country on a Lambretta to away games with the commentator. I believe he was called Copping, possibly Dave but can't remember. We both went to Holgate. I remember going to Northampton once, and we set off early as I was playing in goal for Holgate away at Chesterfield that Saturday morning. Dave (if that's his name) ended up running the line. In the second half I made a fantastic save, only for Dave to flag that the ball had crossed the line. What a complete tool!!! Later on we drew 2-2 with Northampton. Back then the ground was also a cricket ground, and we stood on the open side right next to the pitch. We could hear every word from the players. A lad called Peter Martin received the ball on the right from our right back Barry Murphy, turned and lined up a shot. "Don't f****** shoot from there!!!" screamed Barry. Closely followed by "Great goal lad". Those were the days.
Rammell was a top bloke for Barnsley. At that time, in context, the fact that he really had a go every game meant a lot to many supporters
I remember driving home after the West Ham game and this West Ham fan came on Radio Dee dah. “Who was that Barnsley goal scorer” “Ram it in Rammell or something they called him. We aught to buy him”.
My memory may be playing tricks but I seem to remember watching us at Ewood park and him coming on and scoring the winner/equaliser with possibly his first touch, his debut possibly ?
Remember that like it was yesterday. Hastily arranged for the Sunday after beating Leicester in midweek, pissed it down. Remember me and my mates walking down passed the hammers coaches giving them a bit of jip and then slipping on a pile of mud and being caked up in ***** all match freezing cold
