Pretty prolific! Then again, I think I would be too in the Gibraltar league. Absolutely nuts that a rock smaller than Rotherham with one football ground and more monkeys than people has a fully-fledged league and a national team.

 

A few years ago I was pootling around the Costa del Sol area for a couple of weeks and thought "Hey, let's drive down to Gibraltar. It's not far". It wasn't either, from Estepona, and once we had negotiated the border crossing (slow) it was quite an interesting visit. On the way up on the cable car to the top of the rock, to see the apes obviously, I got chatting with the guy operating it and he said he was in the Gibraltar football squad (I forget at what age level, probably U21). I told him about the famous Scott Wiseman playing for the Reds and his reaction was something like "Oh, him...". But that sort of summed up the state of Gib football. A lift operator playing for them and another plying his trade for the mighty Barnsley. Good luck to them though.

By the way, Gibraltar was absolutely packed with people but it was a novelty seeing a M&S shop there, policemen with English bobby-style helmets and all the rest of the Englishness about this outpost on the end of Spain. I wouldn't like to live there though. The Spanish hate the fact that we still have it even though they love going over there shopping. The apes are cute at first but soon become annoying when they try to steal things from your hands. Fantastic views from the top of the rock though. I'm glad I went there at least once in my life.

Been twice, both times when staying in Estepona. Parked up nearby and just walked over the border. Probably a better idea than driving over as there were long queues of cars, presumably to fill up with cheap fuel.

Very odd place. Remember thinking we were standing at a railway crossing before quickly realising it was an airport runway. The monkeys do indeed cease to be entertaining very quickly, especially when they nick food out of your bag.

Doubt it to be honest! He's just started to be picked in their squads, can't see him turning down that trip and the opportunity to play at Fratton Park.
