We know how it always goes in this situation, second half becomes a training game and the score doesn't change any further. Hope they say sod it to that and go for the goal difference
What was our record after Christmas in.the Prem? We decided to.get stuck in, got a few yellows and had a go..
The thing is, you need to invest quite heavily into the playing staff to help bridge that gap. Like Forest and Fulham have done in recent seasons. If you can keep the bulk of your side if you do get relegated, like Fulham and Bournemouth, you can bounce back and build. But it needs significant investment. Sheff Utd in particular haven't done that, or been able to do that. They sold their best player to one of the sides who went up with them in the summer. I'd argue they're probably weaker now than they were when they went up. I'm not sure what's gone wrong for Burnley (as to be honest, I don't follow much of the Premier League), but I don't think Luton are making a bad fist of it; they've maybe naively built a side of decent championship players in the hope it'll be enough to secure 17th. It might work. But I think there's other factors which have curtailed the Blades season, beyond the gulf in class between the divisions.
Arsenals “fringe player” Havertz cost twice as much as Sheffield Utds entire transfer spending this season. Says it all really. What’s wild though is that Porto actually made net 22 milllion euros from transfers this season and beat Arsenal who didn’t have a single shot on goal. Think the football market in England is completely broken, you can put together a team for a few hundred million euros in Europe and beat Arsenal.
Carl Asaba is annoying when they win (or in general), but my god, he's a depressing listen this evening. He's far too excitable.
Jamie Carragher Former Liverpool defender on Sky Sports That was a disgrace, that half of football. I think it's one of the most one-sided games I've ever seen. They came into this game after losing two home games 5-0 in the Premier League. That's shocking, it really is. It's probably one of the worst performances I've ever seen. I can't think of anything worse I've ever seen in a half of football than that.
Agree 100%. Apart from the fact it's Sheffield United, there's nothing funny about it at all. All it says to me is that the Premier League in general is a miserable league where even the pretence of fair sporting competition went out the window years ago. It's absolutely rubbish.
My eldest is 10, one of his school mates has travelled from Meltham to Brammal Lane with his dad to watch this annihilation
I quite like Asaba as commentators go. Obviously he’s a Blade but I do think he tries to add balance. Unlike John Pearson who just screams down the mic.
