Bolton faff around with at the back and therefore playing someone who can press would make sense…. I wonder if this mcatee injury is a Collins diversion tactic. if not… it would be harsh to not play Cosgrove but not sure he’s effective at the pressing game as say Marsh?
McAtee has been a class signing but for me it would be harsh to drop Cosgrove after 2 goals in his last 2 starts.
Cosgrove for me. tell him 65 minutes go give em hell...then bring McAtee on..assuming it is a bluff and he's fit.
I know what you mean, but there's no evidence yet to show that Marsh is up to being thrown in for such a big game
If McAtee isn't fit he will be a big miss tonight. Caused them havoc in the reverse fixture that second half, should have had a goal or 2.
Yep agreed mate. It’s a tough call, I guess that’s my point. I can’t actually work out if Watters is good at pressing or not. I’m hoping that Mcatee is a bit of spin.
I think unfortunately Watters is where he deserves to be at the moment based on performance merit - not in the matchday squad.
With Marsh, he's young, energetic and very motivated. We haven't yet seen enough skill on the ball, due to minutes played. But he may well run the Bolton defence ragged by chasing and harassing. So, maybe a 50/50 Game time with Marsh and Cosgrove doing all the harassing, with Cole available to do his normal thing, albeit at less pace to last the entire game.
I'd be surprised if it was a diversary comment, just because he said it straight after the Wycombe game; he was probably still in that moment, so I'd be surprised if his attentions had switched to Bolton that quickly. If that's the case, Cosgrove keeps his place. McAtee certainly pressed better, but I think Cosgrove wins more battles against Santos personally. They struggled to deal with set pieces when we played them in the play offs last season, so having someone like Cosgrove who has a tendency to get fouled in and around the area might be just what we need tonight. Him finding a bit of form is also a bonus.
Collins talks a lot about what players have been showing in training. He's highlighted Grant in particular recently and said he's giving him as much game time as he can because he deserves it, despite the form of the players in front of him. Watters isn't making the bench ahead of Marsh, even with McAtee injured, despite being fit from what I can tell. To me, that shows he's not doing the business in training either. It's been a strange season for strikers. I can easily see us starting next season, with only Cosgrove and Jalo still at the club of all the strikers we currently have on the books.
See what you mean, but you reckon we'll be able to move Watters on with multiple years left on his contract? I think we will struggle unless something changes...
Surely if McAtee is injured its got to be Cosgrove with Cole?? not sure throwing Marsh into this game would be wise, not being funny but he's not yet shown he's good enough for a start.
