Been announced today the redevelopment will consist of turning the upper level to be used for out patience appointments and a fitness hub. I think it's a great idea my wifes attended the glassworks for x-rays and it's so convenient and I think it's another massive step forward for the town centre and the council are due great credit for there out of the box thinking

I’m led to believe the eye dept at Barnsley Hospital are moving there. Whether it’s the full dept, I’m not sure

I have had blood tests in the old market area, takes the strain off BDGH.
I think in my opinion the council get some unwarranted stick at times.
We should be proud how it's starting to look, hopefully encouraging more investors to the town.

Great move. Personally I'd be doing anything I can to convince boots to move into the Alhambra now in the old Wilko store (with an entrance outside and inside like Wilko had). It's the perfect addition to an outpatients due to it's pharmacy and would free up the eyesore that is the boots building for demolition or other development.

Surprised Superdrug haven’t taken the unit in all honesty they were on about there wasn’t a suitable sized unit for them to move into so the demolition of the old bhs could commence and if wilko isn’t big enough I dot know what is

Too many entrances in the old Wilko's with the amount of shoplifting is a key reason behind Superdrug not moving to Alhambra

Was Wilko in the Alhambra from the very start? Always wonder if the small part at the very top has every been used in the way it looks like it was supposed to be which was a separate shop entered from west way like the tea room and shoe repair shop are down the side.

Out of interest, are these ‘offsite’ services done directly by NHS or by agencies on behalf of NHS?

there’s only 2 and they don’t have to utilise the top entrance I’m sure it would be quite easy to remove that entire entrance should they so wish

I think it was. There aren’t many original occupants though. Masserellas might be.

I remember Claire’s accessories being just inside the Alhambra, I think that might have been original. I also thought there was a musical instrument shop in there, but I might be confusing that with Fox Music in Meadowhall.

I think it was Fox's music wasn't it? Upstairs next to living.

Did MVC replace suggs sports? Or was it next door?

Was talking about sports shops at work this week. These days there's basically sports direct or JD sports and JD sports doesn't really seem to sell equipment. Back when ar worralad there was Keegan sports, sugg sports, sports soccer (sports direct), JJB sports, JD sports, olympic sports or something like that which had a huge one at parkgate with golf nets and a basketball court to practice on and probably loads more.

I might have got a map of the original shopping centre on my computer somewhere, I'll have a look at the weekend. I've got a store map of the original meadowhall tenants and one of the original parkgate tenants so I will probably have the Alhambra one too
