In terms of calibre of opposition and expectations before the game - though I accept no-one thought it'd be an easy win (for us). Closest in my lifetime would be Crawley away just after Wilson left in 2015, though as I recall we were on a run of about 7 away defeats in a row and bottom half of L1. Nope, I think it's today for me. Lincoln on a good run but still, Lincoln. At home. 5-1. How on earth we come back from this I don't know. Even if we go up, unless we strengthen in a way never seen at the club, can anyone see us not being next seasons Rotherham?
Far from it lad. Losing at home to Torquay after we’d won our first 5 or 6 games at the start of the season, losing by 7 at Reading when we were looking like promotion certainties etc etc
Interesting. Didn't know the Reading one was when we looked like going up. Just remembered the 0-6 at home to Charlton a mere 11 years ago actually. We were fighting to stay up in the Championship so different circumstances to being within touching distance of top 2, but still awful.
This understandable response from the Imps board .............'Barnsley board already channelling their inner Sunderland, Ipswich and Wednesday. "Gotta be one of the worst results in our history. 1-5 at home in 3rd div pub league to a bloody minnow. Hang ya heads in shame. Should all return there wages back to the club" . Who knew Barnsley are such giants. ....." https://forums.vitalfootball.co.uk/threads/match-thread-barnsley-v-lincoln-city.137176/page-14
Crawley at home under Wilson wasn't great we got out played 1 nil flattered us and early season optimism faded fast.
Forgot that - as I was walking back to the car I was trying to remember the last time we were hammered like that at home. I thought it was the PL season.
Not sure we were looking like promotion certainties when we lost 7-0 at Elm Park. Things did puck up after that defeat though
See the thread title - league result. I knew about Marine and Rhyl and I was there at Altrincham under Johnson...
Worse one I can recall is Northampton Town at home we lost 0-1 & they had 10 men for most of the game (I think) this was among the top 5 nightmares though.
This will be an unpopular point of view, but I have to be honest here and say I am really not sure I actually want us to go up. We will not be top 2 and if we manage to get through the play offs, the truth is we are not ready and next season would be horrible. We would be next seasons Rotherham for sure. In fact, we might struggle to get as many points as they have. There are so many players in this squad that are a work in progress and who would benefit greatly from another year of winning football matches at this level and I would much prefer to go up at a canter when we look like a side ready to compete at a higher level, like Ipswich were last season. I know you have to take your chances when they come but if we go up now, we could be mathematically already back down by this time next year. I know people won't agree but there you go, it's how I feel.
Agree with everything you’ve said Sadly I don’t think the Club as a whole is ready for the Championship Even the cats gone
