What is the best midfield you ever seen playing for the Reds. They must have played together so for instance you can’t say Connell, Redfearn, Glavin, Hammill. I’ll start: Glavin, Banks, McHale, Barrowclough.
You could draw a line there and say that’s it. No further debate, but that midfield four against Millwall at Wembley were pretty good. Two wingers - Hammill and Isgrove and Hourihane and Brownhill in the middle
Hourihane, Brownhill, Hammill, Scowen Or Thompson, Eaden, Redfearn, Sheridan, Marcelle - with Bullock and Bosancic as back up.
I certainly agree with that, though I never really thought of Barrowclough -with whom I played occasionally in what used to be a field at the back of the top row of houses on Mottram Street - as a midfielder as such. He was rather just an out-and-out winger.
We’ve had some brilliant midfields but long periods without them. Mid 90’s to really early noughties, we had some quality midfields. Then we went years and years without a solid midfield, until maybe the Wilson / Johnson League 1 team. Robins got together a good midfield but not sure it was in comparison to the other ones we’ve had.
I'm too young for the Glavin era. I would think the 2016 team probably take it for how well they played together as a unit. Then Devaney, McPhail, Howard, Shuker was up there. Any midfield with Hignett in it too but I don't really recall him having settled partners. Barnard, Appleby, Hignett, Eaden perhaps.
Such a shame Jennings never turned out the way we all hoped. He looked truly special at such a young age pre-Bayern
It's a difficult one to assess. Because of age. I'm 100% your selection. I'm guessing lots of others will not have seen it though.
Thought we were just picking a best all time favourite midfield from players we have seen! If not any that had Ronnie in it!
Best individual performance I've ever seen from a Barnsley player. Barra v wendy away. The Flying pig who was highly rated by wendy fans, didnt know what hit him that night.
"Pot", as we called him when he was a young boy, was fast and very tricky and outstanding on his day. He set up loads of goals for Newcastle legend, Malcolm Macdonald, in his First Division days.
