POMPEY GAME POSTPONED DUE TO CALL-UPS Club News Our scheduled trip to Portsmouth on Saturday 23 March has been postponed due to international call-ups. Continue reading on the official site...
This rule absolutely needs changing. If you CHOOSE to sign international players because you've got that much money that you can afford to then tough, you should run the risk of occasionally playing without those players
Frustrating for them that were travelling. On the plus side, it gives Big Don a better chance of laiking.
They've about 8 players in their squad who have played full international in recent years, but only one of them has played any more than 13 minutes in the last 8 weeks, presumably due to injury.
Always going to happen, suits both clubs.. Pompey awful injury list.. and we can't stop leaking goals.. Put it off until it's a non avent
So we expect to be without Cole & Russell. Who will they lose other than Paddy Lane (Northern Ireland) and Kusini Yengi (Australia)? According to the local Portsmouth paper "They remain the only Pompey players likely to be called-up, with Joe Morrell (Wales), Alex Robertson (Australia) and Terry Devlin (Northern Ireland) out for the season and Gavin Whyte out of favour." so who else have they pulled out of the hat?
I agree although on this occasion I actually benefit. I couldnt go next Saturday but I will now be able to go on the rearranged date Far more people will now be unable to go though Ive had the problem in reverse 3 times already this season with home Saturday games I would have attended moved to midweek when I cant go, just lucky in this case that Pompey is only a 45 min drive away
This is absolute ********. If everyone in L1 is going to bottle playing games during international week because a few back up players have been called up for Madeupistan or Scotlands U18s, just extend the break to this division and save us all the hassle. How many games have we had rearranged to Tuesday nights since we've been down here because of international call ups and joke postponements? Exeter and Ipswich last season, Pompey, Bolton, Stevenage and Carlisle this season. Absolute pisstake of a division.
Shouldn't be allowed in lower leagues' fair enough' in the prem and higher end of the championship it may be hard to field a competative team but in lge 1 surely it shouldn't apply thats why you have a 1st team squad' all it ends up doing is causing a fixture backlog' barmy.
Expected really. Unless I’m mistaken, does that make 5 out of our last 7 league games away from home? Most seasons I’d be worried about that but this season it may actually benefit us.
We actually had 3, as Yoganathan had also been called up, so we could have requested the postponement, but didn’t. He wouldn’t have been playing anyway, Russell would have probably been on the bench (and to be honest, being without him usually strengthens us), whilst Cole has only scored 1 goal this year. But Pompey know what they are doing. It means they will be at full strength, it will now possibly be a dead rubber for them, and by playing us on a Tuesday it will halve the travelling fans.
Not sure there's much chance of that. Even with our current "patchy" form of 5 wins and 2 draws and a loss from the last 8, I don't expect us to drop many points from the next few games. Pompey's fixture list on the other hand is incredibly tough. If they're well clear of us by the time we play them then absolutely fair play to them, as they'll completely deserve it looking at their upcoming games.
Suppose on the plus side we don't have to travel down to Portsmouth and back for a hard game just prior to the Easter fixtures
What happens if the players come through your academy and break through to the first team? We currently have 3-4 of the under-21s getting international calls up I believe and I'd hope that we would want all of those to be first team regulars in the next few years...
Then I'd say if they're under 21s you shouldn't really be relying on them that much that you can't play a game without them
