I've just watched the brilliant Bbc Look North video again, and it's brought back many good memories (regardless of the result of course lol). It was in March '85, and the biggest and best team were coming to Oakwell, in the Fa cup Qtr Final. And hey it was also live on telly at our ground/stadium, for the first ever time. And as well as Charlie Williams making me laugh lol, I think it's great to see some rare interviews with Bobby Collins and Paul Futcher, with his twin brother Ron. ps - you can watch it on You tube, but sadly the owner won't allow this vid to be posted on message boards.
I loved Jimmy Greaves making fun of some of our players on Saint and Greavsie as well, in a gentle way of course. Two players named Futcher - they could be brothers etc etc. His comment about Winston Campbell would have got him sacked these days but it was all just part of the sense of fun on that programme at the time.
Who's doggy was this by the way lol, it certainly put in a brief man of the match performance. Brian Moore was giving him some right anti doggy comments lol.
We've had quite a bit of **** on the pitch in a red shirt though. Some on 4 year contracts. That takes a lot of clearing up!
And here's the great Jimmy Greaves giving it large lol, with the Tykes cap and scarf. And I think Charlie Williams is ace!.
I just remembered what he said about Winnie: “There’s one called Winston Campbell. I think he might have curly hair”. Totally harmless humour but a sackable offence these days.
Remember those comments- Gwynn Thomas - he could be Welsh Campbell one was a bit close to the knuckle
Hey this makes me miss Saint & Greavsie on a Satdy early afternoon. And I think Itv ended their show for whatever reasons, after the Euro '92 tournament. Could anybody do a show like they used to, and used to get away with, in the modern day ? lol.
