In my overall personal opinion though, Barnsley over the past 5 years has surpassed Wakefield for a night out.
it was heaving in the mid 90s. Went in there a few times on a Tuesday night after we’d played and it was very busy. Mostly a 40+ crowd in there as I remember.
Used to be a meeting place for us for a few years in my teens and early 20s when I used to go out in Wakey a lot. Very different night out these days though! Used to be bus loads of stag and hen dos at the weekend and busy Thurs/Friday/Saturday every week and fairly decent some other nights.
Whatever happened to Rooftops? 10p a pint night, but you couldn't get pissed on it, even aged 16, gnats wee.
I’d probably know you as I’ve been going in since late 70’s. It used to be a popular venue for students in the 80’s/90’s particularly on Thursdays and Fridays. Barry Spencer was the L/L at the time and he couldn’t quite believe how the young uns paid top dollar for southern comforts and similar. Other pubs seemed to have cheaper drinks and student nights but the Inns was still very busy. It’s not the case nowadays however
Used to go in the early/mid 70's some great places even back then. The Bier Kellar was great and the Intercon club
A mate spent £2.50 and was thrown out around 10pm for throwing up... The bus back to Barnsley was at 2am, so he spent the time staggering around Wakey.
In the main bar there was a Union Jack on the ceiling… this was about 71 as I remember Maggie May was played and the whole pub sang it to the jukey
