Very disappointed to come on here & read a load of over reactions. We created more than enough chances to win the game whilst keeping it tight at the back. It’s frustrating but it should’ve been a comfortable win with the chances we made. Russell missed the sitter of all sitters, Cole missed a sitter, Phillips over hit the simplest of all passes to play O’Keeffe in one on one. Cosgrove slightly over hit it when McAtee would have been in one on one. Whilst I’ve no doubt the experts on here would have picked a different team & made different subs to lead us to a comfortable victory, the truth is the decisions Collins made & the team he picked were more than good enough & creative enough to win todays game we just didn’t take our chances.
Bit of a contradiction isn't it to proclaim us good enough, while highlighting all the poor passes and missed chances?
Fact is that we aren’t a patch on last years side. Saw Coventry today with Kitching and Thomas. If we go up we won’t stay there.
No I said the team selection was good enough. We know Russell can score he’s got 4 this season & we know Cole can score plenty because he’s proven it he just didn’t today, we know Phillips can play killer passes because he’s got loads of assists he just don’t today hence the title frustrating.
Fair. The selection was good enough in the respect that it was as good a team as we can field, but our squad of players are seriously lacking in quality.
Like your post mate, but for me, even today when we totally dominated, we still have that Achilles heel when we are playing McCart and the French lad at the back, both can be liabilities imo
Completely agree in general although they didn’t do anything too daft today. I’m no fan of McCart. Them floating passes he does are terrible
The problem today was, in games like this you just need 1 of your ‘better’ players to produce a moment of quality to win you the game. We were poor today, especially with finishing. Never looked like we would lose the game but We lacked the guile and nouse to get us those 3 points today. Sadly, I’ve now accepted the top 2 places are beyond us. Our home form has cost us dearly this season.
For me what we have lacked all season and maybe longer is that player that goes past someone down the middle and creates a bit of chaos/panic which leads to creating space and gaps, other than our wing backs we are a bit predictable in that sense. However having said all that, if we got our best 11 available come playoff time then we’ve as good a chance as any
We dismantled the defence last summer without bringing in adequate replacements or didn't make suitable attempts to replace the players we lost until January. Collins was always fighting a losing battle. Disappointing result today but we re group and go again.
I agree that we have been crying out for a running midfielder all season. I also agree that if all our decent players play to their best, then we have a great chance in the playoffs . As evidenced today though, we have no real idea of the quality we're going to get from BFC on any given day. We're not consistent from one quarter of an hour to the next, never mind one game to the next. Didn't some other team's supporter recently describe us as "weird"? I'm hard pushed to think of any of our players who puts in a reliably decent display each week. They all seem to be sometimes excellent, sometimes average, sometimes poor. If the team all hit the right note at the right time we can go up. We ought to be dismissing automatic now, and planning appropriately.
Agree 100% about us having no one to go past players. Lincoln had 2 or 3 last week and we saw the difference that made. We’re just so slow and predictable at home….
