Just 3 years ago we won away at all three of Brentford, Bournemouth and Luton within a few short weeks.
A pretty good summary. By the way, my first game was also in 1955, and I remember that we won 2-1 against a Leeds side which included the legendary John Charles.
Yeah mate, and Chesterfield, Southport, Darlington, Workington, Southend, Chester, Bury(gone), .....and Oldham!!!!, who achieved more than us during time I have watched reds, .... sure there is more too
The original poster (e-red) makes some really valid points which I can relate to. I have voted with my feet this season and have only attended the Derby game. Having been a season ticket holder (including renewing during the pandemic when it was obvious we wouldn’t be able to attend ), I became disillusioned with the constant dismantling of the coaching and playing setup. I know there are lots of possible reasons as to why the so called dismantling had to happen but as a supporter it’s only natural to feel a disconnection.
Playoffs last season so far in front of everyone end of season should have gone up auto.Definately should have won playoffs lesser team won it .Nowt to say we can't have same luck and go up
You've been drinking today to be willing to accept a place ten points behind us. Not getting promoted this season is serious business. The league will be a lot tougher next season and we will need to rebuild again.
We will certainly make the playoffs, we are having a minim blip thats all and would prefer if we are going to have one get it out of the way now. Glad the Portsmouth game is postponed and we can have the international break. Much needed rest for the team. Get Herbie back, hopefully Pines, Benson up and running, players rest some of their knocks and ready for the excitement of the playoffs and another trip to wembley. Collins just needs to have a good think about his sunstition. Cosgrove Mcatee Cadden should have stayed on as the were causing Cheltenham problems, We didnt need to change like for like, he could have been more adventurous to really go for the win and added attacking subs to the ones already on the pitch.
I understand that players need to be sold etc, but I look at some of the teams we play against and the same players keep popping up over and over again for these sides. What I mean is, why are other clubs 'seemingly' able to retain their players for more than 18 months? You can bet your bottom dollar, any Barnsley player that comes good is straight out of the door, usually 18/24 months after signing for us, coaches included. IMO if we didn't employ a scattergun approach to transfers and bought 1 or 2 in, let 1 or 2 out, we wouldn't have the massive upheaval that we appear to have every year. We'd surely become a much more stable team as a result? Totally pulling figures out of thin air here, but for example, instead of bringing 6/7 players in for 100/200 grand each every window, buy 1 or 2 for 600/700 grand, no mass influx, no "gambles". I know spending more money is no guarantee, but it just seems fo be a more prudent use of meagre funds.
I disagree with much of what you have posted but for me this is ridiculous. Last years defence: one wasn’t our player to start with, one we had a gentleman’s agreement that he would stay the last year and then we would sell him and the other spend a season getting hammered for not being good enough then had a decent year and was sold for a more than fair price (having apparently got the tit on and was demanding to leave). So I get disappointment but I’m not sure it’s right to be questioning the club over this.
The difference between us an Luton isn't investment or financial commitment: it's consistency. We had the best season in nigh on 20 years and what did we do? We said "nah **** that, we don't think being successful makes our players attractive in the transfer market(?) so we'll appoint a coach with an approach and philosophy which is diametrically opposed to what has just made us successful." It was properly fucking mental. Absolutely batshit.
‘What’s the point in getting to the playoffs if nobody will buy your players’. I miss Khaled. What a guy.
The board. The name never changes but the make up does. A few years ago we were sold to a couple of chancers along with other investors. One of those investors now appears to have bought into what we are about and as also become a fan. He as also increased his shareholding to become the major shareholder. I might be accused of being naive but I see no reason to distrust his motives. Selecting the right people to make progress will take time but I see green shoots.
Hey look there's a flying pig lol, when we're talking about how great these owners allegedly are. And hey Julie Q, go on Twitter again and argue with the fans comments again, you know this is always going to end well.
