If I was her, I'd sell up. In fact if I were any of them. I genuinely wouldn't care what would happen to the club, given the dogs abuse id be receiving regardless of whether we are performing or not!
Ambition is about continuous improvement and setting objectives that targets playing at a higher level. It is also relative and needs resources to meet it. In relative terms the game has probably moved faster than we have and we might be positioned about right in the pyramid. Maybe we have to consider where we have come from and if we have what it takes to play and compete higher and make the game day and brand experience enjoyable too. Maybe top 10 of league 1 is where our resources and funds allow us to be in this day and age. To do something more may need more or something different to the models and ownership we have today and the past few years. Is it a case of being careful what we wish for or do we know what we need?
If we don't go up the following players won't be here next year so we go backwards. Roberts Williams Cadden Kane Cole. That's nearly most weeks five first team selected players. We will be screwed and nowhere near the top of the division.Next year's team will be, Killip,Okeefe Degevigney,Pines,Earl, Phillips,Connell,Russell,Cosgrove and Watters. Also thrown into the mix will be Benson,Jalo,Marsh,Shaw,Dallas,Cundy,Lopata,Cotter.
But we aren't a championship size club anymore, top end league one is about our level now. If we go up, we would be next season's Rotherham sadly!
Of those five Kane, Cole and Williams will all be gone even if we get promoted. Roberts we might try and sign if promoted. If we go up I wouldn't be given Cadden a contract. I would be in two minds giving him a new contract even if we stay in the rubbish league.
Benson will be gone think his contract is up so unless he’s willing to accept peanuts I can’t imagine we will risk keeping him on. Nope actually looks like he’s got one season left.
Yep he does. Which could work in our favour perhaps and he might have a blinder of a final season. Personally would be happy if we got him a move that mutually benefits us both as imagine he’s in a decent wage with us but I cannot see anyone interested in taking him on unless we part fund or agree settlement with him.
This gets said every year as though we don't bring in new players bud. We will. I do believe the players can't wait to escape Oakwell though with the amount of daft fans we have and I don't blame them for a minute.
I'd say the way we've defended this season and in preseason (Leeds 10) is the reason we won't go up and it's not luck but poor judgement. Alarm bells were ringing before the season kicked off.. While ever we have people at the club that can look at the stats and think that Lopata Shepherd McCarthy Cundy Shaw Dallas I could go on and on... and say "yep they'll do*.. We ain't going nowhere.. Their stats look good because of ..THE LEVEL THEY ARE AT.... easy. Bring them in by all means but not half dozen at a time.. and then put four in the first team and wonder why the crowd is quite or even booing.. Bring in one or two and put them in the 21s for a season see how they do.. not in the first team trying for promotion or on the bench.. Every time this season weve made subs. weve looked worse for it.. The problems seem deep rooted at Oakwell.. its why, for me coaches come have a look doa season, then say .. nar f'erk this.. I'll say this now.. come May I fully expect Collins to do the same.. Some may be glad, but likelihood of another back to square one summer fills me with dread..
How else should we do it when we're spunking money up the wall mate? I dont thinkwe have much of a choice but to do what we are doing and hope for long term progress. Owners are already pumping in millions to keep us going.
The reason players can't wait to escape Oakwell is to chase more money elsewhere. Nothing to do with fans.
Absolutely spot on, we’ve found our level, & to get out of league 1 & establish ourselves in the Championship means we have to spend £££ , but the board won’t because they dont have it. It’s currently the state of football in general & I personally can’t find any enthusiasm I once had. Wembley was a kick in the knackers & the following summer recruitment & manager loss was the last straw.
Trim the chaff.. the white elephant of the academy.. costs too much money. The club staff and the playing squad needs cutting Khaleds one job as just been made into 3, we are heading in the wrong direction.. in my opinion. And the latest fashion of a club ladies team needs dropping. It all cost money. Is there any wonder why the club/board are losing/putting money in. It's the direction the club is being taken ins not by accident. It's the first team that brings in the money that nothing else..
Logged in just to like that. The desire to log in is getting less and less these days though I'm afraid.
I have no issue with the current board and I have no idea why they generously pump their money into the club. I know it’s unpopular among some fans, but I have no issue with the current coaching team either. This post is what my frustration comes from. We get promoted, or we start again. This years best players leave and get replaced with development possibilities. While we follow our current player’s careers with other clubs. This side isn’t as good as last year’s, next year’s side may not be as good as this. It doesn’t seem that long ago when I was at Craven Cottage watching us win 4-0. I’ve always been proud that while our “massive” neighbours, north and south massively under perform, we have more often than not (since Clarkey) punched above our weight. We need to sell to survive, while Bournemouth, Luton and Coventry seem to be able to strengthen. What I’m saying is that, whichever division we are in next year, we need to produce a better team year on year and we can’t afford an annual exodus of talent.
