For me, the snapshot shows he timed his run perfectly. The ball has been struck & he's just about level. Another good performance from Jon & should start ahead of Kane for me.
I think Herbie Kane would be the difference today, he would have created plenty of chances with some of the positions we were passing around in. Think we definitely missed him. Kane needs to start for me, especially given his form since Christmas.
3 players in offside positions as the ball's struck. Russell the least advanced, but very definitely offside. Incredibly frustrating, but a very good spot by the lino.
Supposed to be concerned over actual players involved in scoring unless any players standing in goalkeepers site, which they weren't
Yes, which is why Russell's goal was ruled out. The other two players were in offside positions as the ball was struck, but didn't interfere with play so weren't 'active' in that passage of play. Correct decision by the officials.
You don't think Russell was interfering with play when he put the ball in the net??!? He was in an offside position as the ball was played. Only just, but a correct call.
No because he run onto the ball. One of others was definitely off but not interfering the lino should not have flagged i was in west stand directly in line with him
But he was in an offside position as the ball was struck and definitely interfered with play as he took the shot. They're the rules, I'm afraid. Linesman was spot on, unfortunately for us.
Sorry . But yes he was in offside position for final kick, but not when the ball was kicked to him and that's when it counts when the ball is played to him
My brother and I have season tickets together in the West Stand and I agree 100% with Ringo. Russell had 2 (possibly 3) Cheltenham players in front of him when the free kick was played. Maybe the linesman thought McAtee put it in the net - it's the only reason I see for an otherwise very poor decision. The still is quite clearly after the kick was taken (the white blur 2-3 yards in front of O'Keefe is the ball). The goal was good. However, these things happen in games. As others have said there was plenty of time for The Reds to have scored again but we made a number of poor decisions to pass when it was easier to score, overcomplicating matters. Voilà, c'est la vie.........
I'm not sure mate. That still photo that's been seen of what is meant to be the moment the ball leaves the foot does look like he's just offside, but I do question whether the actual point the ball leaves the foot should be a couple of frames earlier, looks like the ball is already clear of the foot on that still frame. I've always said this about offside still frames, it can be manipulated to get a different decision just by rolling on or back a couple of frames without knowing exactly when the ball is leaving the foot. In real time he looked level to me.
Correct. I've not got 70 years under my belt yet, but I've done this stuff for a living for the last 32 and he's clearly just offside.
