Like the shirt but £120 for a adult shirt is a disgrace i will probably buy a dodgy fake for the euros
Just read an article about this. Two of the people upset by it were Joey Barton and someone called 'Millwall Dave' which I think says it all.
I don't know why they've done it, I don't think it looks any better, but I also don't give a flying *****. Can imagine the people that do use the words "woke" and "lefty" a lot.
I think there’s a valid argument for keeping the crest the same colour on the collar, Some England fans could get attacked from behind by other England fans not realising they have an England shirt on , it could cause chaos
From the Telegraph: England kit’s multicoloured St George’s Cross branded ‘virtue signalling woke nonsense’ Lee Anderson and Nigel Farage among those to criticise Nike’s ‘playful update’ to the England flag England’s new football kit for Euro 2024 has provoked outrage among traditionalists over its inclusion of a multicoloured St George’s Cross on the shirt collar. Manufacturer Nike has replaced the conventional all-red cross with one featuring purple and blue stripes in what it called a “playful update” to the national flag. The new strip, which England will wear for the first time in their friendly against Brazil on Saturday, was launched on Monday with a promise to “celebrate football heroes of the past with a modern twist”. Highlighting the “new” flag, Nike wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “A playful update to the St. George appears on the collar to unite and inspire.” Telegraph Sport has been told the colour choices for the cross were partly a nod to England’s 1966 triumph and the blue training gear worn by players. Any connection to the Rainbow armband Fifa banned Harry Kane from wearing in support of the LGBTQ+ community during the last World Cup was categorically denied. There are no plans to recall the kit. ‘Pearl-clutching woke nonsense must stop’ The move has been condemned by traditionalists, including Nigel Farage and MPs Lee Anderson and Brendan Clarke Smith. Farage branded the design an “absolute joke”, adding on GB News: “It bears no relationship to the St George’s Cross whatsoever. If the England football team think that’s acceptable, well, why on earth would you be apologetic about Englishness if you’re going to play for England in the European football finals? I think it’s an absolute joke.” Reform UK MP Anderson dismissed the move as “virtue-signalling woke nonsense”, telling the Daily Express: “The left have a nerve to ask me why I want my country back. “This virtue-signalling, namby-pamby, pearl-clutching woke nonsense must stop. Any more of this and I’ll be on the first flight to Rwanda.” The new kits – which will also be worn by England at this summer’s European Championship, as well as by the Lionesses and England Para teams – cost £124.99 in adult sizes and £119.99 for children. Clarke-Smith said: “Maybe somebody in the design department misheard Three Lions and instead went for three lines on a shirt. “I’m not sure what this is supposed to be, but it certainly looks nothing like our flag and I’m not sure it needs an ‘update’ either. That said, I doubt they’ll shift many at those sort of prices.” It was not just politicians who opposed the new design, with comedian Jason Manford writing on X: “Oh dear…this is not gonna go down well! what a weird thing to do tho! A US company having a cheeky play with another countries flag, let’s go back to Umbro I say, we won the World Cup in that kit.” link
So the people who care about this are Nigel Farage, Lee Anderson, Telegraph, Mail and GB News. Also known as the furious cabal of self-serving **** stirrers. Are any of them really that arsed or is it good 'content'? Why do they want you to be arsed, whether you agree or disagree?
Virtue signalling is the new buzz phrase. I saw someone use it on Instagram the other week because there's no cheerleaders on the new series of Gladiators.
It’s my fault folks. Nike called me up and asked if I had any ideas. We got chatting and I explained I was getting cheesed off with my Twitter feed being full of ***** from small-minded, right-wing Neanderthals. Between us we hatched a plan to flush them out, so I could block them all in one go. Now my feed is full of people who have a more pressing concern - how expensive the shirt is, when we know it was made for pennies by a load of kids in Bangladesh. And Derby fans. Loads of sodding Derby fans. Why are they all over my Twitter feed??
I'm not getting into all the woke/snowflake nonsense doesn't interest me in the slightest. I'm a tradionalist at heart and somethings don't need changing just for the sake it and that's it, looks s*** each to their own some will like others hate it, I'll wait to they put the England flag back on the shirt before buying a shirt, that's just me, liking a degree tradition doesn't make everyone a snowflake the two aren't comparable.
What do you mean by tradition? I ask - as up until the early 2000's - there was no flag on the kit so if you want to be a traditionalist then wouldn't you want the flag removed from the kit? Note, I don't identify as English or Woke so I have no skin in this game but do I get confused with all the flag waving stuff regardless of nationality.
I particularly like the racists "it bears no resemblance to the st George's cross", "its nothing like our flag", "i don't know what its supposed to be, its nothing like the England flag", "I’m not sure what this is supposed to be, but it certainly looks nothing like our flag" Why are they all so upset about something that they say isn't anything like the st George's cross being on a shirt? There's no red and blue stripes on our flag either so why aren't they upset that we've got the old Serbian flag on our sleeves?
Where was the outcry a decade ago when the colours of the st George's flag were altered for the England shirt? Methinks the racists and the bigots are a decade too late in crying. Or maybe just too thick to have noticed it till they saw someone on twitter having a meltdown
