Where do we go from here? We’ll know that this time tomorrow. If Lincoln and Oxford have each gained 3 points on us I fear we are slipping out of the play-off places. If not we will limp into the play-offs where we’ll be playing at home first, either against Peterborough or Bolton. I don’t see us getting through to the final, but if we did we’ll probably have three players who are already speaking to their next clubs, like Duff was last season. In the summer there will be a big exodus of key players with no money coming in. There’s about a £4m gap to fill before we start, because there has been for the past two seasons and the owners are not going to be wanting to throw another £4m on to the fire. The Kitching and Mads payments will be coming in, so they can cover some of the running costs. We will have freed up a some wages, so a couple of free agents we’ve not heard of will come in. More kids will get pro contracts. Dallas, Lofthouse and the other player whose name escapes me will come into the team. We’ll struggle to keep hold of Jalo, but maybe Connell’s awful form might stop him from being poached, unless the club choose to take a couple of million for him, to fund bringing a few more players in. Hopefully in the summer we’ll send Cosgrove, Watters, Marsh, Dallas and the other guy off to striker training camp, to familiarise themselves with what they are supposed to be trying to kick the ball into. We’ll start the season with a much weaker team than this season’s, in a much stronger division, that has Wrexham and Stockport coming up, and three better teams coming down than the ones that went up. And in November, with us 18th in the table, we’ll sack Collins and make Disco caretaker. The recruitment process will take a while, as it always does, the quality of candidate will be even lower, and so as soon as Disco wins a match he’ll get the job. Is my bet.
Do you know what, Good Friday throws me every sodding year. I got up early yesterday, waited 2 hours for my brother to turn up, before politely texting him to ask when he’ll be here, cos I don’t want to nip in the shower and miss him, and he texted back saying “I said Saturday”. Even then I spent a few seconds thinking ‘yes, and?’ before realising! And then last night I was wondering why the Football League Paper wasn’t on Readly yet.
I thought the exact same. Did my fantasy football team before the 11am deadline, did my super six, turned on the tele to watch Newcastle - West Ham & then realised it was Friday!
I think it did, not quite enough perhaps but yes. Earl, Pines both starters where we needed. Grant as back up in midfield. We have no idea if the board had funds allocated to sign more. We got loans out to players not good enough yet. He might have wanted a new striker but we've got 6 if you include Jalo. We may well not have been able to afford another and no other clubs came in for Watters. Even if it was a mistake, I don't think he deserves to be judged because of one occasion.
That’s actually a wild claim to make. Oxford, Bolton, and Posh managers haven’t had the axe yet as far as I know. They’re not pulling up any trees either.
If that’s true, that suggests he didn’t understand his brief in the role and may explain why he didn't get the job full time.
Backed Collins all season on here as I believed we needed stability after the Duff fiasco but after the Cheltenham and Cambridge games (And even Carlisle where I was butt clenching till the whistle went) I thought he might get sacked..will be gone if we don't make the play off's as the board will need a scapegoat to appease the fans..sadly with the players leaving next season ya can't see much changing. Winning the play off's is now the only way we'll move forward as a club...
Based on current PPG from form, we are due to get 11 more points alongside two losses. We’re more than capable of doing that, starting with tomorrow. We would need to have an absolute disaster to drop outside the play offs, something I’m not sure we’re that bad to achieve.
I wouldn’t honestly be so sure. Win tomorrow and I’d agree. If we were to lose or draw and others below win…..could get interesting.
Those in and around us will be dropping points against each other as well. Peterborough have Oxford and Bolton to play. Oxford have Peterborough, Lincoln and Stevenage. Lincoln have Oxford. Stevenage have ourselves and Oxford. Bolton have Oxford and Portsmouth.
Waiting for a ,not be long before we’re in the conference post like we had at the beginning of this season.
