I think Roberts has actually regressed whilst been here, whether that's down to injury, motivation, coaching, general happiness etc...... He was keeping us in games earlier in the season and probably keeping Collins in a job at the same time, same can be said for Cole.

It was brainless. Pass back away from goal, not within the goal frame. It's not even a schoolboy error.

It's a f*cking sh*te keeper, he wouldn't have been beaten by a shot with that much power. Jesus have people never played football??

Wow I'm out of kilter with most people on here about Durand but this thread totally reassures me that I'm right. Only one person has mentioned the absolute basic mantra drilled into footballers, especially defenders, that you simply do not, never, ever, ever pass back to the keeper between the goal posts.

On the actual incident itself I was right in line with it from my seat in ESL and Roberts was transferring his weight on to his right leg - 100% correctly so as he was moving, as he should have been, to his right to get out of the line of the goals.

When Durand amazingly fired it past him straight down the middle of the goal Roberts would have had to have had a bionic/plasticine amalgam right hip to change direction and re-catapult himself back left far enough, in time.

200% Durand's fault and Durand's fault alone. Absolute kindergarten football basic error to not play it back wide of the posts.

Literally nothing adverse happens if Durand does the simplest of nursery basics, even if Roberts gets swallowed up by a spontaneous tsunami the ball goes out for a corner. Just astonishingly and unforgiveably inept by the wretched French semi-pro league signing.

I'd probably add Phillips to that list also, It's concerning that not one player is really thriving in this team.

It's no longer 1980s English football, keepers can now play football these days. As a junior football coach we encourage the kids to play it across the back, Like Bunny and Branson did with Stones. What gets ours backs up his parents on the sidelines shouting "get rid" "boot it"

    The keeper was sh*te

I was fuming with him. He just didn’t seem to make any real attempt to stop it. Even if he couldn’t have in the end I’d have expected to see him put more effort in.

I thought it was totally Roberts error.
MDG played the ball correctly firmly to Roberts strongest left side. Roberts also had time to react.
If I was MDG I would be fuming with Roberts not the other way round.

Very similar to one Chris Morgan scored against Gillingham.

Keepers can't play football though. They think they can. How many errors do you see where even world class goalies in the top flight leagues dribbling the ball around then end up playing a pass short giving the ball straight to opposition resulting in a goal?

My apologies, no, I've never played professional football. Though obviously, a goalkeeper would anticipate a shot from an opponent different to a backpass from his defender.

This post is bang on..I'm an assistant coach for my eldest's team (U10s) and we always work on "playing out from the back". It doesn't always work but it's about trying to make the boys and girls more comfortable with the ball at their feet and hopefully that will benefit them in the long run. However the amount of parents we hear,.shouting, "put thi boot through it kid", "get rid of it" is unreal. Unfortunately for a lot of parents it's all about winning rather than seeing the individual / team development.

They can, the outfielders also make plenty of errors and they're supposed to be the ball players, it's more noticeable when it's a keeper.

Apart from the mystifying version of De Gevigney's name, I agree with what you say. From my seat near the halfway line at the top of East Upper, I was directly in line with the trajectory of the ball and able to see that Roberts was wrongfooted. He did not have time to readjust his position. It was really obvious, as soon as the ball was kicked, that it was destined to end up in the net.
