Burton Albion tomorrow, the scene of our last Easter away trip. Given our away record, the bookies understandably have us as favourites for this one at 4/5. The Brewers are best priced at 10/3 to end our 10 game unbeaten run away from home. Burton have replaced Cambridge in the place above the relegation zone. They've lost their last 5 at home in the league, scoring once in the process. Whilst they have faced Peterborough and Lincoln in that time, they've also been beaten by struggles Carlisle and Port Vale during that run. Prior to this current run, Burton's home form wasn't particularly bad; they'd lost 2 out of 11 at home in the league, which were against Portsmouth and Stevenage, winning 6. Though, there are only 4 home sides with a worse home record. Their overall form is only marginally better, as draws with Wigan and Cheltenham are the Brewers only 2 points in their last 8 games. They've won just 3 of their last 16 in the league, stretching back to last year. They're currently bottom of the 5 game form table, with just 1 point. Our record at the Pirelli Stadium isn't the best. The aforementioned Good Friday clash there last season was our second successive defeat there, and was notable for a blatant hand ball on the line by John Brayford, seen by everyone except the officials. Our 4-2 victory there in 2017, notable for an absolute thunderbastard by Joe Williams, is our only win at the Pirelli, after successive goalless draws in our first two visits in 2016. Notably, our goalscorers at the Pirelli in the past have generally been wide players; aside from the aforementioned Williams effort and Cauley Woodrow, our scorers there have been Lloyd Isgrove, Brad Potts, Harvey Barnes and Nicky Cadden. Though Devante Cole has netted 5 times against the Brewers for the reds in the past; a brace in the last two meetings at Oakwell, and the 5th goal in our first ever meeting, an FA Cup game back in 2014. Whilst the Brewers have only conceded 2 fewer goals than us, they've only scored more goals than Shrewsbury in League 1 this campaign, just 32 in 40 games. Midfielders Joe Powell and Mark Helm share the mantle of top scorer with 4 goals each. 4 of their 5 recognised strikers only joined in January on loan, and none of them have more than 2 goals. Similarly to our summer attacking recruits, signings Cole Stockton and Josh Gordon have both been sent out on loan after disappointing in the first half of the campaign. Burton do have a full international on goal in Max Crocombe, and vastly experienced centre half John Brayford at the back. Former reds academy product, Jasper Moon made his return from injury on Friday, and could feature tomorrow. Referee Martin Coy registers fairly low on the card count this season, with 86 yellows and just 3 reds in 20 games. This is his second reds appointment, after he took charge of our 3-1 home defeat to Oxford back in August; on that occasion he correctly awarded the U's an early penalty, as well as 5 cards during the game. He last took charge of Burton in February of last year, in their late 3-2 win at Fleetwood; on that occasion, Mr Coy issued just 1 yellow card, to former Burton player Zak Ashworth, and a red to Fleetwood's Josh Vela. He did score pretty low on the ref watch leader board, due to his inability to let the game flow vs Oxford, allowing them to constantly time waste, and generally slow the flow of the game. For whatever reason, we are just better away from home. We're quicker, more direct and less afraid to take chances. Against the sides 10th and below away from home this season, we've won 10, drawn 3 and lost 0, with 2 of them left to visit. So for me, again, I can't see past a reds win. I'm going for 2-1, with McAtee and Cadden scoring in the first half.
What was it about our last match. Our opponents had lost their last 4 away conceding 15 and scoring 0 fortunately we are away and seem much better 3-1 to the Reds this time
2-1 They'll be belting the ball into our box from corners and set pieces, and I'm not too confident about our centre backs dealing with this.
You forgot to mention in all that. Managed by ex club employee Martin Patterson.. and ex work buddy to both Collins and MLH 1-1
Think we’ll batter them tomorrow. Cole, maybe bag two, and Josh Earl to score. Might even say we’ll keep a clean sheet. Wowzer.
