Millennium stadium was brilliant too. It was bedlam when Colgan saved that last pen. Our first success in a playoff competition. I’d like to throw 80s games Southampton 2-1 and West Ham 5-2 away into the mix as well. A more forgotten one but great game would be Bradford away in a cup mid 2000s. 5-3? To the reds. End to end game that went to extra time,
So many Watching Glavin, guy was pure genius 1981/82/83 that team should have gone up to Div 1 and would have stayed there. Promotion season 96/97 Cup run 97/98 1st visit to Wembley 2000 Millennium playoff final 2008 cup run 2-2 at Huddersfield great escape Double under Hecky Stendal promotion
Hahahahaha was just about to agree wi Baldrick when ah saw this..too many to mention but that win and the pitch invasion sticks because it was my generations 1st taste of that atmosphere.
Missed out on 96/97 by a few years That said, experienced plenty that others have mentioned post-prem - Liverpool away and Chelsea at home in the cup and all of the Wembley/play off wins. A leftfield one was one of my first away league wins, the 4-3 at Peterborough where we went 3-0 and conceded 3 in about 10 minutes, then Craig Davies made it 4-3. Speaking of Craig Davies, the 5-0 at Birmingham under Keith Hill was amazing too. Don't think we'd won away for about 8 months or something stupid, barely a few hundred Reds down there for a televised game - absolutely battered them and should've had 10. Had a few stonking wins there in my lifetime.
Even above the Bradford promotion game.. mine are a bit less in stature but mean more to me. in the Richie era.. the third goal at Hudders in the play offs by Nards.. when that one hit the net and we knew we'd won the semi..but the follow up was better. Then the Colgan pen save vs Swansea in the play off final.. was as good as it gets for me. I think because I didn't think we'd beat Swansea in there own back yard
Being taken to my 1st game in late 70 s and knowing it a labour ov love , followed in later years taking my own sons to there 1st game and introducing them to the trials and tribulations of being a fan ov the Greatest club in the world
First game v Hartlepool 2nd game promotion game v Grimsby All the league Cup run 81/82 which included first away game at Anfield Barnsley 4 Fulham 3 after being 3 down inside 10 minutes - ground would be empty after that now Promotion to Premier league - unforgettable day and night Winning at Anfield x2 Man Utd in the Fa Cup both games - robbed at Old Trafford 7-1 v Huddersfield Cardiff play off final - prefer Millenium stadium to Wembley Wembley 2000 - great game plus atmosphere - both fans really friendly and respectful Oxford Johnstones paint trophy - my first cup competition win Brentford - not there but wow! We've had some great moments in 45+ years I've supported them and here's to many more!!
Glavin scoring at Bellend Road (2-1 to the Reds) has to be one of the best. Ran the length of the field from our box to theirs and coolly slotted it in.
Another good one was just before the FA Cup semi final, Tuesday night at Oakwell against Ipswich, Brian Howard hat trick (4-1). The Ponty End atmosphere was absolutely buzzing.
