Why is it bizarre? Hes tried something new because our form has been poor, and he can only use the players available to him. Least we've given it a go. Well done to him for the changes made second half.

At 3-1 down they would..and tbf compared to Burton we have, but we started with a distinctly average starting lineup...had the position been reversed and we'd been fetching on O'Keefe, Cosgrove and Russell I doubt anyone would say that it is a strong bench.

Strange then that with all these sought after gems no-one bothered to make a bid for any in January.

You don’t think starting a game with 8 defensive players is a bit odd ?

Maybe he looked at the squad from the other day and decided that lads were fcked and he maybe made a judgement call that we could win whilst giving lads some rest?

Football isn't like the 80s any more. You can't play the same team for 55 games a season.

It looked a bizarre selection to me. Admittedly the end result wasn't bizarre, in that it resulted in a completely predictable first half shambles.

It was so bizarre and dreadful that he had to change it and go back to something more recognizable.

Did the manager think that his new first half team was going to be the means by which we played our way to the Championship? Heaven help us if he did.

They'd just had 2 weeks off.

Plus we'd just been beaten by a team with one of the worst away records in the league.

So the idea is to give our supposedly top strikers a rest? And change the team formation to accommodate this?

No. He tried something new (which didn't work) then resorted to the bleedin' obvious (which did).

I doubt that the players needed a rest after 2 weeks without a game, I think he was trying to make a point to a few players and you could argue all day long wether his plan was genius or that he needed those players to bail him out of a hole. Good win though and proves to me that we're a much better team playing on the front foot.

He rotated the squad when we played 48 hours ago, made some sensible changes, rested some legs and came away with a 3-1 victory.

    What an absolute bstard.

We played last Friday, then on Monday.

Same as the usual Saturday, then on Tuesday.

2 free days in between. As per.

So no need to rotate any more than usual. Unless your first performance was so abysmal that you felt that something needed to be done.

Turned out that your "something" for the first half was even worse than 3 days before, so you went back to the usual away formula which has been superb. And guess what?

Oh you mean like how we rotates a squad when they play every 3 days like normal? And how he's rotated this limited squad to 5th. We need 12 points from 6 games to top last season. What a loser he is. Best sack him. You can't play the same 11 every 3 days. It's not 1984.

Firstly, today was more than a "rotation". It was a revamp. Till second half it no longer was.

Secondly, I don't know why you're going on to me about sacking him, or what a loser he is. I voted to keep him. I want him to succeed. I think our away displays have been immense (not first half today).

Fair point - was thought you were part of the Sack Him lot. I still think it was just rotation.

    Apologies.

Fair play today, it's been slow, predictable football across the back three for most of the recent games. Started with a new formation and the back three were a lot more direct in the first half with Cosgrove to aim at, it didn't quite work and he was isolated a lot. Couple of changes and a new formation and we were a lot better in the second half.

He's been criticised for not having a plan B and he experimented today. Personally l would sack off the back 3 formation for the rest of the season, they aren't good or quick enough to play it - especially in the play offs. Go with 4 at the back for the run in.

Pretty sure we played with 4 at the back for the entire first half today. It certainly looked that way on iFollow. Then we switch back to 3-5-2 second half and scored 3 goals.

    Best idea you’ve had yet.

He could play a different formation.

I meant the usual back three were more direct, as a back three they've been passing amongst themselves for the past few games, mixed it up a bit in a new formation. At the start of the second l thought we'd set up with 4 at the back, but Williams might have just been deep from the kick off. Didn't pay much notice - it was the far end of the pitch.
