Did we not have a similar blipp under Duffy going into the play offs last season. We were not the form team going into them.
I don't think we can be out thought a second time by Lincoln like we were a couple of weeks ago and if we were, we wouldn't deserve to go up, so I am not too bothered really who we get. For it to be Lincoln or Oxford, either we have to finish 3rd and them 6th, or Peterborough have to stumble badly, so we are 4th and 5th respectively with Peterborough 6th - I don't see either of them scenarios arising so I think it is more likely to be Bolton or Peterborough. Of those, I think I would slightly favour playing Peterborough. Derby will go up automatically.
You’re right, we certainly didn’t have form going into the playoffs but that was slightly different in my opinion. Automatics were gone (mostly due to the start of the season) and we were confirmed a playoff place. Whereas this season automatics were definitely on until this recent poor form, Burton aside.
Could be similar this season. 2 more wins would all but mathematically guarantee a play off spot with Lincoln and Oxford having to play each other, if that game ends as a draw. If one of them wins that game, then 2 more wins mathematically guarantees a spot. Then a 4 game set of dead rubbers.
Bring incoln on the home game was just one of them days. If we played them again we would beat them over 2 legs.
The players I worry about the most for the rest of the season (including the play-offs) are Kane and Cole. They could easily be the most influential but I fear for their commitment to the cause. I can`t see them already having a future sorted out - although I could be wrong - so you would imagine it would be in their best interests to sweat blood in the run-in.
The real question is should we aim for 4th or 5th. Are we better off losing our home game first and trying to turn it around or try and build a lead away before we come back and lose the home leg?
I say 5th. Get a win away and then get the fans behind us at Oakwell. Hang on, I've got that the wrong way round haven't i?
