15 year old girl was kidnapped and an amber alert was issued. Police found the car she was being held in and stopped it. She was then shot and killed. For two years police have refused to release video footage saying that they believe it was her father (the kidnapper) who shot her and that they were not aware it was the girl moving towards them at the time. However they've now released the footage and it shows two police officers both identify that it's the girl who is in front of them. She is told to come towards them which she does, advancing slowly towards them before the police open fire on her and murdering her in cold blood. Third world country who just happen to speak English!
That's right but also - Why do so many Finns own firearms? They’re hunters. The Finns have hunted and fished for food for thousands of years, with agriculture only catching up as a major food source in the 20th century. Today, hunting (PDF) remains a popular weekend, or even after-work, activity. Finland is one of the largest European countries, and there are ample grounds for hunters. (Forests cover more than half of the country.)
There was another one last week , mother fumbling in her handbag, discharged her gun , shooting and killing her kid. Technically it was an accident, but was certainly an accident waiting to happen!
All Finnish men are conscripted into military or civilian service - so roughly 80% of men under 30 have served some in the military. IIRC it has one of the largest pro-rata reserve armies in the world. Those that don't do military service can learn first aid, peace education and non-violent resistance.
