No, but they did finish 3rd and it took a monumental collapse to deny them autos. The stats are heavily weighted to the teams finishing in 3rd.
Can`t have it both ways - Wednesday lost all form (even for the first leg of the play-off) before turning it around. Why can`t we stand a chance this year as long as we get into the play-offs in the first instance?
Looking at Derbys fixtures I don’t see them dropping many, if any points - unless there’s a bogey team I don’t know about, which means we could win every game and still not go up automatically. I honestly think we are capable of beating Charlton and Steve Hillage, but sadly the Sat/Tue combo often ends up with us slipping up in one or the other @paul.d?? Only thing we can do is try and win those games and take some form and confidence into the playoffs - if that’s where it leaves us.
2nd, no chance, but we might surprise someone in the playoffs, probably ourselves! We know they're capable....
Thing about playoffs at Oakwell is it will be sold out (ish) and it shouldn’t be like a morgue (unless we’ve lost the other leg and playing for pride)
Ever the optimist put a tenner on automatic promotion for the Reds -- disappointing odds of 7/2 - at least bookies not written us off!
Derby will probably win 3 out of those 4 giving them 91 points meaning we'd need 92 points due to GD that means we'd need 6 wins from 6 games, playoffs I'm afraid, it would need Derby to have a monumental meltdown even then it would leave Bolton in pole position. Nice piece of work by the OP but pretty much futile.
Think we'll most likely be playing the first leg at home (as happens 5th v 4th). With our home v away form we'd probably all be celebrating a draw at home as if it were a win
Apologies for being boring but lets take one game at a time and concentrate on winning it (and then hopefully repeat). Are automatics impossible? No Are automatics improbable? Yes The likelihood is we'll end up in the play offs and it would be good to go into those in good form but I feel the factor of momentum can be overstated and other factors (e.g. form, suspensions, injuries, opposition, venue, character etc) will have just as much impact on the outcome. We have a chance which is all I wanted at the start of the season.
We're 28/1 on SkyBet for automatics, so I'd say they have. Sounds like you've backed us for outright promotion inclusive of play offs at those odds, mate.
Thanks - you're right - son placed bet for me - checked with him and seems he placed bet for promotion not automatic.
Judging by the games that mattered last season the promoted sides won at least 4 out of last 5. Plymouth won all. PLY WWWWW SW LWWWW IPS WWWWD
All this. I don't think we'll finish second, but we might, and there's nothing at all to be gained from giving up or claiming categorically that we won't as though it's a fact.
