Imagine dropping out of the race for automatic with just a couple of games to go.....that'd put you in exactly the wrong frame of mind to give the playoffs a right crack. At least we've probably shot our bolt with plenty of time to spare and hopefully build a bit of momentum again.
Just can't see us getting near that 2nd spot now. Just make sure we don't slip out of the play off spots and try to build some momemtum for a final push. Collins and his team need to sit down and watch every single match for the teams in the play offs, especially those where they have been beaten. Was that just a bad day at the office or did certain tactics employed by the teams who beat them scupper their approach. Lincoln especially, if we go and play the same formation and gameplan against them should we face em, we get dicked yet again. I'd like to see Nathan James given a bit of game time, he looked decent when given a chance before. Something needs to shake up that back line.
I think the momentum was lost following that late leveller by Bolton. The trouncing by Lincoln and the very disappointing shows against Cheltenham and Cambridge for me mean it's the playoffs (at best). It's a shame because it was in our own hands and for a side challenging for promotion, taking 2 points from two playoff rivals and two sides battling relegation, all at home is pretty unforgivable at this stage of the campaign, however let's keep the faith because you just never know.
Yep, 2 points from a position where 12 looked a decent possibility. Just imagine how the table would look with those lost 10 back!
Lost track of the thread mate, so not quite sure on the point we're debating tbh. If we finish top 6, of course we have a chance. That's how the play-offs work. My only point really, was that the stats show the team finishing 3rd get promoted through the play-offs the most. So naturally I want us to finish the season 3rd, which I think is still within reach. Do I personally think we have a realistic chance of finishing 2nd though? Definitely not.
I think we need a bit of perspective, 99% of posters on here would have happily taken our current position back in August last year. We're not mathematically out of it yet and until we are, I remain optimistic. We have 2 home games left and we need to get behind the lads so let's have a rousing "Red Army" from the Ponty.... Red Army!
That's how I see it, the run in now is so important for us to go in to the playoffs in good form with some positive support.
