Been watching Reds for around 50 yrs. In all that time I've never seen a poll on sack the head coach before when we're in the top 6. Quite bizarre really ,hope he doesn't find out. We sound very Wendy ish.
There's a sense of entitlement in the air on this forum at the mo. We're a 'big' club at this level and should do better. Actually there's plenty of bigger clubs below us. I'd like to see more tempo to our football. But Collins deserves a lot better than fans calling for his head at half time. In fact both Duff and Collins deserve a bit of credit for righting the ship after the disaster of the last Championship season. We could easily have gone into free-fall. As for the board - give me this lot every day of the week rather than the multi-club portfolio of the Conway regime.
A little bit of perspective needed at times, if you want to boo ,so be it . But not at half time with 45 minutes to go. Results have not been great at home. But away from Oakwell where teams set themselves up differently, and the toxic atmosphere is not there. The boys can play some amazing football, Peterborough away ,best first 45 I have seen in a while. We had a similar blip under Duffy going into the play offs . Went to Wembley and played them off the field with 10 men. I am hoping for the same , but there as to be were all in it together .
I said yesterday that some of our fans this season have “gone all Wednesday”. I remember most were taking the pee out of them last season when they wanted Moore out.
Me too, a bit longer even, but on saying that I can't remember a season quite like this either, very hit and miss home form, complete debacles against bottom and out of form clubs, but really good away results. Personally I don't think their is anything 'Wednesdayesque' about most of the board, just frustration at the tactics and shocking results at home against some very mediocre teams. As far as I can see Its always been the same, except in the past moans were confined to the walk home and pubs as there was no social media.
Under Heckingbottom we were 5hit at home. People have this strange notion that paying their money guarantee's a winning team. Although I can see their disappointment at times.
When I calmed down I thought about both the Cheltenham and Cambridge games and on another day we win them both. If Mcatee hadn't placed his shot into the post being too clever we'd have won comfortably. It's weird not to be a prophet of doom but I sense these seminal moments in games.
100% we had enough chances against Cambridge to win 10 games ,I thought we didn't play that good against Port Vale and scored 7, against Carlisle I walked out of the ground thinking how did we win that.
Fair enough, and 7 for the worst side in the league last season so he's more than capable at this level. I'm not buying the Collins has a poor squad of players idea.
yes I agree it’s the biggest crock of **** going and Pines aside no notable injuries other than a bit of wear and tear. Most teams would kill for our players. Just cos we are a centre half short doesn’t excuse everything
I'm not saying they are poor players although I think most on this board would say that some definitely are, but saying as you did that we are blessed with sought after stars, and Collins is failing with them is stretching credibilty. Most of the lads we fetched in before Duff and later Collins are L1 and below players now at or reaching their prime and have never ( or rarely) played at a higher level. Duff had a much better defence already at the club, Collins has done reasonably well to produce play off contenders from this squad. This is not a criticism of the players themselves. Roberts 29 yrs old. Cole 28 McCart 26 Cundy 26 Earl 25 O'Keefe 25 Cotter 25 Phillips 26 Cadden 27 Cotter 25 Watters 25 Cosgrove 27 Kane 25 It's unlikely any of the above will make big money, and whether they leave and move to a higher level is debatable. MDG might do better Kane night do better Connell almost certainly will. McAtee almost certainly will Williams has been with us 6 years and no-ones bought him...who knows. To say blessed when you compare the above to our last two L1 promotion sides to me looks a bit silly. Hecky in L1 had Adam Davies, Josh Scowen, Mark Roberts, Lloyd Isgrove, Sam Morsy, Conor Hourihane, Adam Hammill, Josh Brownhill, Ashley Fletcher, Sam Winnall, Lewin Nyatanga, Paddy McCourt, Marley Watkins, Ivan Toney, Alfie Mawson, James Bree and Adey White. Stendel had Adam Davies, Jordan Williams,Ethan Pinnock, Dimi Cavare,Adam Jackson, Liam Lindsay, Kenny Dougall, Ryan Hedges, Cameron McGeehan, Alex Mowatt, Cauley Woodrow, Kieffer Moore, Mamadou Thiam, Jacob Brown, Lloyd Isgrove...plus Bradshaw and Potts. Most of Collins squad wouldn't even make the bench in that company.
Staff and players have more pressure at home, simple passes become difficult that's why we have to get behind em,it lifts em,but were human we naturally feel better to show are emotions, when we beat wolves to prem sure they had a fantastic away record and not so good at home, lincoln will win play offs.
I'm not saying Collins had a better squad than hecky or stendel. But imo the league standard is alot worse than back then. A couple of points sam morsey never played for us in league one nor did paddy mcourt. Stendel never had hedges in league one and players like thiam and cavare got hammered on here as not good enough. Your naming players at 25 and saying you doubt they will play higher pinnock was 25 when with us and went on to play in the top flight. I think next season Williams cadden Cole and kane will all be championship players with or without barnsley fc. Although Williams and cadden have gone backwards under Collins. Kane would walk into any midfield in this division and cost us more than Cambridge Lincoln or burtons entire starting 11 cost. Collins has weaker center backs than duff had which makes the tactic used against posh Bolton and ever Derby to a extent of dropping deep and trying to defend the lead inviting pressure on the defence even more strange. I'd also say he has better strikers to choose from than duff did. OK we lost Norwood and tedic but I'd take macatee and cosgrove over Norwood and tedic. Plus Collins had styles for half a season.
When you look down the squads of previous Reds managers you realise how often we've snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Sendel's squad in particular was the best I've seen at Oakwell since the days of Sir Danny. Far, far ahead of the present set of lads on every level. Kept together I'd have fancied a tilt at play-offs.
If they leave us they may well be at Championship teams, but they'll all be squad players with little first team action. I guess the £££ will soften that blow.
Why would they say that... he was a well proven Championship player and had 81 games in the Championship under his belt before going to Coventry.
