How 'bout them Cowboys (Dallas). Ohh soz, that's the NFL I'm thinking about isn't it lol. Especially as you said the words Giants and Washington in the same sentence. Btw, its a small world isn't it, a fan from Exeter of all places.
The big concern for me is that, having managed to put automatic promotion briefly into our own hands, Collins has somehow engineered a crisis of confidence to the point where we're back to the early season situation where he no longer seems to know what his best starting XI is. He's tinkering with selections and, so far, we're not seeing much in the way of improvement. The players themselves shouldn't need much firing up to get themselves over the line, as far as making the play-offs goes, but I wouldn't be surprised if we fail to get 5 points from the final 4 games (technically we need 6 to rule out 1 perfect storm scenario of results, but 5 should do the job). I suspect we might sneak in via others dropping points too. Big questions need to be asked regarding the head coach over the summer, and how he and his team respond to the adversity they now find themselves in will be a big part of that assessment. So far, he's failed to get a positive response from several fixtures that looked easier on paper than the ones still to come. That's a huge concern, and listening to his post-match interview last night didn't inspire any confidence that he has the answers. However, we are where we are, and we have no realistic options but to put faith in him being able to turn things around from here. The next 4 (and hopefully more) games will tell us more about his abilities as a head coach than the ones that have already gone, as the scrutiny and pressure are fully on him now. He needs to get a performance out of them on Saturday. The atmosphere at Oakwell is likely to be tense, and could very easily become toxic if things don't go our way. 4 games left, 6 points to be certain, and I get the feeling that 3 of them have to come on Saturday if we're going to achieve that.
Yep I'm sure we can just about manage to limp over the line with only four games to go. But a poor result on Saturday then with trips to Pompey and Blackpool to come. We maybe left wanting 4 points from the final Northampton game . Or a natural disaster.. But we should be ok cos the other chasing teams are running out of games..
Interesting how expectations are tempered by how we feel after a game. I came away from Tuesdays game worrying that we’re at home next with Pompey away to follow, which of course has potential to go very wrong for us, but would depend on the teams below us as well. A couple of days on and I’ve punched through the gloom, and in now thinking about sold out semi finals and possibility of another Wembley day out.
No doubt there’ll be dissent from a few corners of the ground if we haven’t scored first half. Possibly a few boos, maybe even some “Collins out” chants. Not from me though. A good atmosphere in the crowd (like Derby at home) generates excitement on the pitch. They need to know we’re supporting the team, good or bad. It’s not that hard is it? Why go if you don’t care? Why go to abuse people and boo?
