I dont think that there's anything dodgy about that interview at all. Collins comes across ok and responds to a question about out of contract players with a comment about them in his answer. Yes, the players aren't out of contract yet but the question was phrased as it was and Collins responded like for like. More of a semantics q and a I think and nothing to get cross about.
The worry I have is that Collins thinks we will get the 'consistency' back and is implying there is a bit of anxiety in the team. Nothing about tactics, formation etc. He just seems to think the team will magically revert to getting good results. That's the concern for me.

as i see it, both Kane and Cole ar not top championship players in their respective positions at the moment- unless they have had offers we dont know about- imho they are good 1st division playeres- which teams can afford them - Derby-portsmouth-both will prob be promoted so who else

In my experience, there's a difference between working one's notice period and coming to the end of a fixed term contract, as is the case here. I think it's realistic to expect someone to be fully committed up until the end of such a contract, as the end date was part of the agreement. I always was, for sure. Notice periods, less so.

Have to confess, I can't see Luton coming in for any of them...

Shouldn't matter - Mcatee isn't our player and is going back to his parent club in a few weeks - puts more of a shift in most games these days then the rest of them put together - its called having a bit of personal pride.

I imagine most, if not all, of our out of contract players will probably have their moves sorted. I could definitely see Herbie getting a mid table championship side. Williams possibly a bit lower and then Cole probably one of the teams that go up or one that just stays up. Not sure about Cadden yet, don’t think his recent form will mean he has loads of suitors. At the start of the season I said it was pivotal that we got him on a longer contract but he’s not been at it this season. I would still probably like us to extend his contract though, if not anything more than a bit of continuity because it doesn’t appear we will have too much of that.

Of the loan players, I could only see Roberts possibly being here next season. His form first half of the season was outstanding but has really dropped in the last few games. McAtee will get a midtable team if Luton stay up. McCart is simply “no thank you”.

I have to say that selling the club to prospective recruits as merely a stepping stone to better things really annoys me. It might be reality but still…

I agree, it is the reality of why most ambitious players might come to us but it also bugs me that we would be saying come and join us, play well and we will let you move on.
It does set the scene that it is all stop gap and not progressive, I’d rather we were selling a dream to the player of what we are trying to build and how they can be pivotal to that vision.

The point is he shouldn't be so bloody pleased about it because they're still being paid a very good wage by Barnsley FC so they should be trying or handing their wages back if they can't be arsed.

Maybe us being a stop-gap club, is just a stop-gap until we become a more stable club. Just a glass-half-full opinion.

Come on, that’s been a bit ridiculous. He’s just getting through a press conference as quick as possible without saying anything controversial.

He’s hardly going to say ‘things aren’t great behind the scenes, agents are lining up moves for my players. I’m not sure who’s committed & who isn’t’ etc.

Press conferences in general are a complete waste of time

Exactly what I was going to say, mate. It gets banged on about on here & twitter about players downing tools & being on the beach.
