It's pretty sure this was the target set for Collins at the start of the season. So I think it will be an achievement, even if the final push over the line has been faltering. The guy deserves enormous credit, given that the squad was weakened before he arrived.
We will limp into the playoffs. I’ll be full of hope rather than expectation. There’s no way this team can claim to be the 3rd best team in League 1 IMO, but once you’re in the playoffs anything can happen.
Promotion was the aim, not just top 6; that’s only half of the target achieved. Were limping towards finishing 6th and it’s going to be Bolton again…..
Think we’ll get one more point against Northampton. Hard to see us beating anyone at the moment seeing as we’d have to score at least 3 to do it. Might all hinge on Reading not losing to Blackpool on the last day.
The 'enormous credit' thing is quite a reach! The team's got progressively worse as the season's gone on. The occasional upturn, but on the whole it's been downhill. I'm sure his intentions have been genuine, but they're a side stripped of all confidence, all drive and creativity. None of them look like they actually enjoy playing football, maybe Jalo apart, but he'll soon have that knocked out of him.
It isn’t an achievement at all in my view. This league one is the weakest I’ve seen in many a year, the teams that have beaten or taken points off us in recent weeks are pretty poor, the whole league is weaker this season. Portsmouth have won the league comfortably and they really aren’t that great, not a patch on Plymouth, Ipswich, Wednesday or even us of last season. Bolton and Derby nowhere near that. Our team of last season would have won this league already. This season’s team should at least have had a playoff position sewn up - and have the luxury of resting players and nursing injuries at this point. As it is there is still a realistic if unlikely scenario we don’t even make it. From where we were half a dozen games or so ago that is completely unacceptable.
Hate to bang on about it but 2 draws possibly isn't enough if Lincoln win their last 3 they would finish above us on GD. Best case is Oxford beat Lincoln Tues meaning a point at Blackpool does it (assuming we lose at pompey) Worst case is Lincoln win next 2, Oxford lose to Lincoln and beat Stevenage and we lose at Pompey and Blackpool. That would make it as follows going into last day: Oxford 76 Us 75 -------------------- Lincoln 74 Blackpool 73 And we would have worst GD of the 4......
Even yesterday we should have been dead and buried if it wasn't for abysmal finishing from reading who missed a number of sitters
Can’t see us winning another game this season and that includes the playoffs if we get there although technically we could draw our way to promotion by winning penalty shootout’s i suppose.
We lost Duff blah blah half of defence went blah blah second spot should have been bare minimum! As the season has gone on that has become more evident it’s pretty shocking standard, we are under achieving under a clueless manager/coach , luckily or hopefully he’ll be gone by 19th May, if he does happen to pull off a miracle and I don’t want that at all now. Just imagine his anti football and none/bargain basement recruitment, record low points total I’m sure.
I will sound like a happy clapper but here's a thought shall we put aside our thoughts and wishes to be proved right and just put on our supporters glasses and support the team. If we are lucky we may have 6 games left in this season and the inquests can take place over the summer. Let's not make it easier for our opponents as this in fighting will be music to their ears. Just remember what a hostile place oakwell was last year when we got behind the reds.Do I wish we were in the top two, well yes, do I wish we were playing better, well yes,are we doing a typical Barnsley thing and trying to mess it up in the last few games, it certainly seems so but which team.do I want to go up of the teams that are in the play offs well of course it's the reds which goes without saying.Anyway that's my two penny's worth so I will end by saying COYR.
It's very hard to fake enthusiasm though when Collins is instructing his team to tap the ball from earl to mdg and back for 90 minutes. The problem starts there, not with the fans. And the solution has to come from changing that
That's unfair from yesterday. Started on the front foot, could have been a couple up in first 20 minutes. Attacking wise much quicker and better yesterday. Defence another issue but I imagine as a neutral yesterday you would have enjoyed a good end to end game of football. And we have now scored 90 or 91 goals this season in all comps and are 3rd top scorers in the division, scored more than top 2. That suggests issues in defence not attack.....
The issue for me is that we play full football where the aim is quite literally to pass around at the back until the opposition has a lapse in concentration and we can hit a pass forward. Problem with that is it bores fans as well as the opposition
