I said a few minutes before his goal that he'd done more than the other two strikers combined although to be fair Sam Cosgrove did more than Devante Cole yesterday and he didn't play
Spot on this for me mate. Gave the ball away in dangerous positions and made a few daft fouls. After he scored, he looked a different player. I think we gloss over the bad things because he's young and looks like a huge prospect, but credit where its due today, soon as he got that confidence he's went for it imo.
Yeah, like a different player after the goal went in. Let’s hope he takes that confidence into the rest of the games this season. Could be a slight wildcard for the playoffs for us, without getting ahead of myself too much.
Can almost see our top men getting the cotton wool out for him, hope I’m wrong and he fires us into the play offs. It’s what we need just to give our older strikers a reminder that they have to produce GOALS to get in the team. Probably our biggest asset at the moment and will be sold this summer
His goal (and his performance for five minutes after it) aside, I thought he was pretty poor to be honest. We all want the young lad to do well, we always root for our young ‘uns at this club (technically I know he isn’t a local but he’s been around the club for years and is still only 18) - but he really isn’t special, even at this level, at least not yet. He could well have a fantastic career at a good level and I hope he does, but he isn’t going to carry us into the championship single handed in the coming weeks, realistically. That said he was no more poor than the majority of his teammates, as an example Watters and Cosgrove contributed as much as Cole did yesterday and they didn’t play.
He did look pretty poor until the goal. He spent more time on his arse than anything else but strikers are judged on their goals & he delivered when we needed him
He's been injured until a couple of weeks ago so not surprising he's been fed in gradually. Personally I think some of both points of view in this thread apply in that he did look lost and was knocked off the ball or lost possession for the first part of the time he was on. Latterly he was a breath of fresh air though and scored the equaliser, nearly scored another and played the ball in that Cole fluffed / should have left for Cadden to have an open goal. A striker's main job is to score goals and he certainly did that and looked far more likely than Cole. Good to see someone take opposition players on and run at them and I like him coming in from that right hand side at this point in time which is where he's been when I've seen him for Portugal U-age groups.
Hasn't he just signed a new deal when other clubs were sniffing but him and his dad wanted him to stay here and get into the starting 11 rather than in a championship or Premier clubs reserves.
