It's slightly unfair to not trust Southgate, that is without having a better option to suggest, bearing in mind that he's the only manager that's qualified for every competition and made quarter's, semi's and a final...only lost on penalties.
Yeah I agree about what he's done for us and where he's taken us in the recent tournaments. But I just think his frustrating mis-management in each of those games, when it really mattered, has cost us. And yeah just out of interest, I'm not sure who could or would want to replace him, and do better than him. But I'm sure you know what I'm at least trying to say.
I do see, but frustrating mis-management is not fair, nobody in my lifetime other than Ramsey has achieved anything..or even close.
Serious player him, a young lad who’s walked into a Chelsea side in turmoil but has singly handedly carried the entire team all season.
And there's the problem. We are woefully short of top class defenders so Southgate has to play two deep midfielders to compensate. Sadly Rice will have to play a deeper role than everyone would wish. And yes, Henderson will probably have to play alongside him,
I wish England had the same options in goal & at the back as they do towards the top end of the pitch. All of Gordon, Palmer & Watkins could legitimately win player of the season but could quite fairly be left out of the England side given we’ve got Saka, Bellingham, Foden & Kane. Chelsea are having a terrible season, they could finish out of Europe & many want the manager sacked yet they could have the player of the year. Bizarre. The left footed goal he scored was outstanding, it was like watching Messi at his best. Very rare to see an English player score a goal like that.
I'm not sure on McGuire, he's sh1t3 for United, but he never lets England down. He seems to work well with Stones too.
We have a genuinely very talented pool of players, unfortunately, when bravery and imagination are required to go on and win when the situation is conducive to doing so Southgate lacks either of these attributes.
Pickford is very reliable in an England shirt. The worry is the best of the rest. Ramsdale 2nd choice at Arsenal and very little beyond that. Pope injured. Chilwell will probably be the left back at the euros with Luke Shaw likely to miss the tournament through injury and beyond those 2 who else do we have. Centre back with Stones I'd pick Fikayo Tomori ahead of Maguire. Dunk not international quality Guehi and Mings injured Pickford Walker Stones Tomori Chilwell Rice Bellingham Saka Palmer Foden Kane would be my starting 11 plus look at the other options to take as back up Gallagher Mainoo Bowen Maddison Rashford Watkins Alexander-Arnold just need to find some fit enough defenders and Rasmdale as back up goalkeeper. Rico Lewis Harry Maguire Joe Gomez Eric Dier? Tyrick Mitchell
That's what we always tried to do and always failed. France left Cantona and Ginola at home, played the water carrier and won the World Cup and the Euros.
