Think it's a round 300. Hats off to all of them. Presume most of those go every single match which is something I can never get my head around. How many "every weekers" do we have do you reckon? 200ish? I'm around 25-30 matches most seasons and that's generally exhausting even in a good season. God knows how people go to 50-55 games, esp periods like this with 3 big treks in 10 days......
Its the logistics that gets me. A round trip to Portsmouth is what 9-10 hours? You would have to take (at least) a half day off work and not be back in town much before 2-3am. And this isn't the furthest trip. I know some fans live down south, but they've got to trek up here for the midweek games.
Exactly. Its bad enough getting back to N Leeds at 11.15pm after midweek home games (M1 or M621 always shut) let alone the long midweekers. Did Carlisle as a one-off the other week, got back 00:30 and wiped me out for a week. Could be a sign of middle age mind......
We have an excellent away following. If tonights game would have been a "top 2" game we'd have took nearer to a 1000.
I guess it depends on the hours/shifts that people work but if it was me I’d probably have to take 2 days off to get to Pompey and back on a Tuesday night. Unless I want my productivity to be near on zero the following day. Maybe could work half a day before. A lot of time, effort and money for those travelling. Let’s hope they get some kind of reward for it all…
I’ve done them all apart from Bristol and Charlton but I’m not there today or Saturday, so 19 league aways + Horsham and Bradford in the cups = 21 in total AND a drive to within an hour of the original Stevenage game on top. A lot of driving! I’d say the vast majority going tonight will have been to every league away game this season, and we have a nucleus of around 4/500 that go to most. My mate and me are both self employed so it’s easier for us to take the time off for the midweek games, although we obviously forfeit earnings.
Giving tonight a miss, only 2nd game I've missed all season. Stevenage away knocked stuffing out of me last week. Up for work at 4 every day doesn't help either. Got in bed at 10 past 1 last week. Hats off to those who've travelled tonight
Without the Missus (and the various pets), I *could* in theory travel to these games. Set off on the train and work on it, stay overnight and work on the train back. It would be expensive mind. I could even work from the London or Reading offices for capital visits but that wouldn't be a problem from the work side. Very expensive and far too many trains though
How long you been doing that for? That's pretty impressive. I mean I like an away day but I'm limited to 5-6 a season, partly due to my daughters football taking place Saturday mornings, but also just the effort involved. Home games take me out 1300-1815/30 generally so not as straightforward as some I guess but I genuinely cba going away every week. Maybe it's an age thing (48) but even when I was younger never did more than 75% games the odd season (Bassett season springs to mind). Hats off to any going tonight.....must mention in passing apparently Carlisle are going to average just over 1,000 away this season which, given the geography and the season they have had, is mental
Been doing it for a long time, my shifts changed in January to regular mornings and up at 4 every day. So tonight would have been 2 days off work, these sods aren't worth 2 of my annual days off.
I did Portsmouth away on a Tuesday night the season we got promoted to the Premier League. I drove down alone, setting off at 2:30pm. The disappointment of that defeat still hurts me now. Partly down to the circumstances of watching the game with Pompey fans because my sister worked at Portsmouth at the time. I stayed over that night, but the thought of having to turn around and drive home after that defeat would have been awful. I’ve done it on many other Tuesday night defeats, but I honestly take my hat off to anyone travelling to Portsmouth tonight.
