On us now to get a result at Blackpool on Saturday. We could be down to 6th by the time we play them with Oxford hosting Stevenage on Friday evening. I honestly don't know what to say at the moment other than I'm starting to get a little nervous. I'm gutted for the lads because tonight's performance was our best showing for a while and clearly merited a more favourable result but the issue is we can't defend. We can't defend from open play and we can't defend set pieces. Blackpool will target us on Saturday and in particular I'm sure they'll look to put plenty of crosses into the box. Surely we can't **** it up and miss the play offs from here. If we do then Collins has to go.
The pressure will be immense for us on Saturday and Blackpool will just be looking it as an outside shot so the pressure wouldn't necessarily be on them. It really feels like a flip of a coin right now in regards to us getting in the play offs.
I suppose one thing to say is that one point or zero points doesn’t matter that much on the grand scheme of things I don’t think. if Blackpool beat us on Saturday which they inevitably will do so, then we have to win on the last day. This would’ve been the case had we drawn tonight I think. Let’s face it if we don’t beat Northampton at Home we do not deserve to be in the play-offs full stop.
That Is fair enough but we've been shocking at home all season, the pressure would be incredible and the home crowd you already know would be impatient, hostile and not too forgiving of any mistake big or small. Plus Northampton aren't actually a bad team and have won 3 out of their last 5 games.
We were good tonight ,disappointed we lost . But if we miss out on play offs at this stage ,it is a disaster.
Agreed but as pointed out our home form has been pretty poor. We've struggled to beat teams lower down the division and I can't see the Northampton game being any different.
They're a better team than Reading, Cambridge or Cheltenham and we couldn't beat any of them recently
3 points is what we need and in my opinion the only chance will be Northampton but it will be a big ask at the moment, i hope i am wrong and by some fluke we get them at Blackpool, but just can't see us doing it. If we don't get out of the league this year, things will only get worse, money will be even tighter next season and to be honest just can't see this coach motivating the team enough either now or next season. I think he has winged his way to our present league position, mainly because the league is that much poorer than last season
Draw at Blackpool. It's **** or bust for them as they need the win and hooe other results go for them. I think we will get a draw there and then beat Northampton at home last game who have nothing to play for and guarantee a pkay off spot.
I genuinely can’t see anything but a loss on Saturday. Even if Blackpool have an off day, we’ll probably find a way to gift them a win. I hope I’m proved wrong.
But if we'd drawn tonight, and lose at Blackpool, a draw against Northampton would still have been enough for us to finish above Blackpool. Lincoln's win at Oxford was a bad result for us. Any other result in that game and Lincoln couldn't have caught us if we get one more point. In fact, if they'd lost, they'd already be in a position where they couldn't catch us.
It's still in our own hands though this weekend, we're not depending on other teams losing. But in fairness, we shouldn't have put ourselves in this position!.
Hand on heart I don’t think we’ll win either. We’re gifting 2 goals pretty much every game at the moment. Maybe we should just go for broke and hope to win one of them 4-3 but it just doesn’t feel likely right now. That said I actually think Blackpool is the opportunity. They have to win and will go for it and the way we defend a basketball game is probably our best hope. Northampton at home needing a win would be horrible. The pressure, the restless home fans, an opposition turning up with no pressure. Recipe for disaster.
I hope you (and your doggies) are right there, Tatty. It's in our own hands isn't it, so you would think and hope, that there shouldn't be any need for excuses.
