How did you rate Mr Howard in his first Barnsley game.

Penalty was one in my opinion as it was silly by McAtee, no need to slide in there. Gave the ref a decision to make in front of their fans and couldn’t blow fast enough.

But overall I thought the ref was poor and caved to the pressure of the team, fans and atmosphere. How Pack escaped any punishment for numerous late challenges, the cynical swipe on Cole and chirping back at the ref all game, I’ll never know.

Also blowing the whistle without playing added on time in injury time so he could get down the tunnel again backed up his caving in.

A 3 from me for his spineless display as the game got near the end. No control and gave Pompey everything. Timekeeping obviously suspect and maybe with two more minutes we could have salvaged a well-earned point. The big occasion was too much for him

All said above. Only thing he got right was the penalty call, unfortunately.

Hmmm, genuinely thought he got a lot more right than wrong in a high-octane game. Sensibly kept his cards in his pocket until late on. 7 for me.

Sensibly if you’re a Portsmouth player call Pack. We have a player walking a second yellow tightrope while Pack is given license to basically do and say whatever he wants. Very inconsistent again. Waved away quite a few stonewall fouls for us. No added time after the initial 8 minutes was ridiculous. Poor very poor, It’s a 1 from me.

Brian Howard on commentary though Pack should have been booked in the first 10 minutes.

The fact that he played not one second more than 8 mins tells you he is unprofessional, inept and/or bent

Upto the penalty I thought he was doing okay but that was a bit harsh Then again I’ve been unhappy with decision making in respect of penalties for years. Beats me why players can fall over at slightest contact at ground level and the ref immediately points to the spot yet defenders can push, shove and literally wrestle opponents to the ground and it gets totally ignored.
Away rant over I’m going with a 5

Te penalty was a definite penalty. Easy as pie to award it.

Classic player going away from goal, no need to dive in, just usher them away situation. Wham, striker thinks he action man runs 20 yards and dives in.

    Brainless decision.

Got the penalty right and I’m loathed to criticise too much about the stoppage time - he did play as much as was given, and there was clearly going to be a massive invasion and they’re instructed to clear the field as quickly as possible.

But he allowed their players to ref the game, Pack should have been booked four times at least - he wasn’t terrible, but sided with the home team on their big night. Not the first and won’t be the last to be guilty of that. A generous 5.

He did not allow for any stoppages within the stoppage time, dress it up how you want, but it is wrong. If every game was not played out to it’s end, or time is not sufficiently allowed for stoppages because of fear of pitch invasions, then we might as well give up.

That’s not hard with the dross we’ve had this season. I thought Saturday’s ref was good, admittedly it was an easier game to ref, but he basically was even-handed with his handling of the game

Most refs never add on any time when ball been out of play and time wasting still goes in added on time. It infuriates the crap out of me.
