    Hi All,

Trust everyone is keeping well. Crazy announcement yesterday, with even crazier follow ups this morning (FA) and this afternoon (EFL).

We're speaking to the club, the EFL, the FSA and Dan Jarvis around all of this, but official statement/update/whatever you like to call it can be read below.

Appreciate the sentiment but didn’t we already disrespect the magic of the cup for the fans by fielding an ineligible player and getting kicked out of it?
    Half said in jest, obviously.

Catering to the 'big' clubs yet again.

That’s a strange position it wasn’t disrespect just incompetence and as relevant as saying we disrespect it every time we lose

Was it not disrespectful that we didn't get things right and therefore Horsham had to play a pointless game with nothing riding on it against us?

I'll go a step further. It was disrespect because if we'd appealed we'd have been re instated. It's obvious the club didn't want another tie with Horsham.

As I said, it was half said in jest, but the next two commenters summed up reasons why it definitely makes it difficult to take the high ground on this issue. I do however support that FA Cup replays should not be done away with, unless of course the Premier League wants to pay an appearance fee to all clubs who participate, which is sufficient to offset half the prospective gate receipt of the largest club still in the competition.

**** the modern state of football in this country. The Premier league needs to collapse in on itself at some point and then maybe we can build something decent from the ashes.

This feels like a very negative stance, but probably shows where we're at or where football is at these days.

We made a pretty embarrassing human error. It wasn't deliberate, aimed to be disrespectful to Horsham, and we didn't do it to gain an advantage or cheat. We just messed up in the same way players have when they've lost their heads in big moments, or had a lapse of concentration away from a football club. Did Zidane disrespect the World Cup with his red card? Maybe. But not to the point where he couldn't take the high ground on giving it to Qatar if he was to comment.

It really doesn't make it difficult for us as supporters to condemn the FA and Premier League from actually disrespecting the oldest cup competition in football, and doing so deliberately to appease a handful of clubs who might happen to be playing an extra round of European Football next year. Especially when two of the teams are flying halfway across the world three days after the season ends, just to play a money-grabbing friendly.

Really good statement Ben. Thanks for sharing. May I enquire about whether the option of boycotting the competition in protest if the decision isn't reversed has been mooted?

I haven't heard anything official on that one other than it being suggested by supporters online.

Some of the owners in the lower leagues have discussed privately building a counter-proposal where the lowest ranked team in the draw (e.g. York vs. Arsenal) would be given the option to choose for the game to be home or away. Dealer's choice almost.

My personal preference would be something like bringing teams who qualify for Europe in at the fourth round. Leave replays, leave the weekend free calendar (which is actually a good thing), and if there's some jiggling around needed to make that happen you could offer a 3rd round spot to the promoted teams from conference and league two, as well as the winners of the Pizza Cup. Or something like that.

Good statement. My disappointment is that the Club haven't independently spoken. I sincerely hope they don't actually endorse the decision. Listening to some of the PL managers today, is appalling. Just coming across as inconsiderate, selfish, greedy Club puppets. That said, I imagine they've all been told they need to toe the party line.

The magic of the cup somewhat lost its self when Man Utd decided to pull out.
The days of sitting round the radio on a Monday afternoon for the draw are long gone.

Think this would lead to situations where fans would prefer a home tie and clubs prefer away and would cause a lot of animosity as a result.

I genuinely have no idea why the League Cup hasn't been scrapped, or reinvented with no Premier League clubs but a European place for the winners. That would certainly have teams taking it seriously.

Champions League spot for the FA Cup winners would also go a very long way to restoring its prestige.

Been a fan of this idea for years.

I know what you mean. I'd want us to take our shot against someone at Oakwell rather than cashing in for the likely defeat away at Spurs. I suppose for the non-league clubs, without the chance to hold out for the replay, you'd end up with almost zero shocks switching it to the away team.

I said in my second post that I absolutely agree with not scrapping replays for the big Premier League teams sake, unless they’re going to pump more money into the lower leagues.
And as I said in my first post, it was half in jest, but only half.
