Scrap the Lg Cup and the Pizza Trophy/Cup. Or maybe merge them, and don't include any Prem teams, and offer some good incentive for the winner. And make it a regional normal knock out competition as well, with no replays and no group stages.
The European Super League will come to the rescue of those 6 or so greedy barsteward clubs. Maybe people were wrong to protest when they tried it last time and we should have simply waved them goodbye. And good riddance.
There used to be a reward for winning F.A. Cup….was called Cup winners cup, ought to go back to that n make it worth winning financially
Is the question here not why did the clubs agree as that is obvious but why did the FA agree? Did they consult all members who participate(clubs)? Can they genuinely demonstrate that the agreement they have made is in the greater interests for the good of the English game?
They’ve tried to. But that was quickly rebuffed by the EFL. https://x.com/emiratesfacup/status/1781263421012316221?s=46&t=lbRtoJUZAPoLfjFx7IGzmg https://x.com/efl_comms/status/1781307281126158563?s=46&t=lbRtoJUZAPoLfjFx7IGzmg
I'm actually not totally against scrapping replays. I do think a better solution to fixture pile-up for top premier league clubs would be removing the premier league from the league cup (or maybe just removing prem teams that qualified for Europe?) and adding Scottish teams into it. Give some fresh matches.
Simply allow Premier clubs who draw each other, so round 3 going forward, the option of whether they wanna play a replay or not. Smaller clubs getting **** on at the expense of the big clubs once again. Most clubs in the pro leagues outside of Premier league play more games than the clubs in the premier league anyway.
If they did away with them we wouldn't have anymore of those fantastic nights under the lights like against Enfield, Leicester and Man Utd. Still have such vivid memories of those three. No doubt there's fans up.and down the country with similar feelings and memories. I loved the FA Cup! Couldn't wait for it to come round each year. I personally think the FA devalued it as they began sucking up everyone's ring in an attempt to get the World Cup
I'll never forget the games against the Blunts in 89/90. 2-2 at Bumhole Lane, 0-0 at Oakwell and 0-1 at Oakwell if memory serves. I was at all three, the best game was the first which we should have won, but the atmosphere at Oakwell for the replays was electric.
Thanks for the links, I’ve gotta be honest and say I’m no clearer as it seems it was vaguely discussed and then the EFL were not involved in the final discussions although equally there seems to have been some members of the EFL involved on the joint board.
We were 2-0 at Bramall Lane if memory serves me right. 8,500 Tarn fans in attendance. The tension at those two replays waa amazing!
1-0 then 2-1 within the first 15 minutes. Ian Banks missed an open goal just before half time which would have probably sealed it.
Trouble is they want the penny and the bun - to join the ESL and STAY in the Greed League at the same time. We'd never be rid of em and they'd be greedier and viler than ever.
Trouble is, if you let the European qualifiers enter at 4th round, then it won't be long before the rest of the prem push for the same
It will never happen but perhaps league 1 & 2 and non-league team should withdraw from the cup next season in order to voice their displeasure. Like we did this year.....
