People who are happy in their job tend to be more receptive to their bosses wishes and thus more productive than those that aren't.
True. However, I would think football's a bit like being a nurse in that even if your managers are poor, you get satisfaction from doing a good job for your patients/fans?
He would be my choice. I always thought that when he said he was here for the long haul he meant it but that would have been before he had come to terms with the nuances of Oakwell management. We have now changed CEO and that may be significant.
I can only imagine they've also spoken to senior players who have given their views on the issues as they see it and perhaps suggested frustration at the way he's setting them up to play, especially at home in the first 20 mins (For 2, Against 12) says it all unfortunately. I think as bat **** as these decisions look from the outside, they can make sense from a psychological point of view because they invariably release pressure on players, with the coach being the cork that flies out of the shaken bottle. Only time will tell I guess...
I'm pretty shocked by this, but at the same time, I don't have any confidence that we would get a result under Collins based on our recent performances, and from that point of view, a change makes sense. Is Devaney the right choice to turn things around, though? I do wonder if something has gone off behind the scenes, and also wonder what effect the prospect of another season of Collins's brand of football is having on season ticket sales.
To sack him with one game to go tells me it was the right decision, we don't know the behind the scenes but to make that call there must have been some justification we don't of.
Shocked at this, and think he should probably have been given the chance. On the other hand, I wouldn't have had much confidence in him taking that chance. And if the club have already decided that he's not right for next season, why not. Makes Saturday interesting!
Agree about nursing , but your job could be on the line if you disobeyed your manager as a footballer.
Let’s put it another way. If say Kane /Cole /Williams/Cadden/Phillips are transferred do you genuinely think they will be transferred lower down the pyramid? I’d expect all to get Top 6 L1 / bottom half championship moves. Same for Connell when fit.
That said it's still very sad we're now "one of those clubs". It's never a good look regardless of whether these moves work. Don't have the stats to hand unfortunately
Trouble is it will take while October to find a replacement. Then we will have to wait till he gets a work permit. So my guess it’ll be sorted for Christmas.
I for one applaud the club for making what must have been a very tough decision. He's not the man to lead us forward, and I honestly believe we would have lost again on Saturday under him. Thanks Neill, shame it didn't work out. Hopefully we can all unite and push us over the line.
Stats from Doug O'K Games as Barnsley manager: Collins 52 Duff 58 Asbaghi 28 Schopp 16 Ismael 44 Struber 39 Stendel 66 Morais 15 Heckingbottom 105 We've had managers poached after less games. So it's not as if he hasn't had much time as others
