To find a manager and give him a full pre season, for a change. Can't remember the last time a Reds manager had a full summer to build his squad. Could make the difference.

I think whatever happens, we could become quite an attractive job come summer. A full pre season doesn’t come along often for managers out of work.

That is one thing I’ve thought as well. We have a decent amount of time now to sort someone out to make sure they are 100% ready when the players return for pre season.

The new head coach will have very little say into the recruitment. He will be given the players to work with. Let's hope the new players are brought in well in advance of the summer transfer window closing so there's no excuses. It's a huge test for the DOF.

Correct, meaning that there should be far more accountability for those that make the decisions on player recruitment than there appears to be at present.

Like all other processes at the club you can be rest assured that we will make hard work of it.

I’d like to think there is already someone lined up to take the Club into the play offs. I’d also like to think the DoF already has a shortlist of names for next year, which he will be approaching this week.

However, I fear it’s more likely that neither of those things are true, and we will still be waiting for the new guy in June.

    We’ll see.

    July 31st.
BFC announce the new head coach. This gives him one week to complete preseason .
Oh and by the way, we've never heard of him.
Oh oh, he was fifth choice.
    Nostradamus has spoken.

June would be fine, broadly speaking.

It’s if it’s taken until the end of July there’s an issue.

The coach doesn’t build the squad. He just has to make the best of whatever he’s given. Perhaps that’s the problem?

The gaffer has a say in every first team signing made while he’s at the Club.

He gets a choice, it's slightly different from him identifying players and saying I'd like to bring one of those in, what do you think the board would say if he said I'm playing 433 and id like to bring in xyz player? Being given a say in which player from 4 to choose from is slightly different mate

Then he takes us into the playoffs, but we say his football is rubbish because we don't win 7-0 every week so we sack him.

Yep agree it’s different. But this view that the manager is just given players and told to get on with it, just isn’t true and never has been.

I wonder how many old school managers there actually still are in the game at the top levels, who scout, pick and sign players?

The game has changed and from what I hear, many managers seem happy for analysts to do the leg work identifying players, while they concentrate on coaching the players and prepare for matchday. As long as they get final say on player signings, and then squad selection if they are.

The board will be scouring leagues across the universe for someone we have never heard of as we type.
