"I would argue that even when we were winning games, the standard of our football was still very poor, hence the poor atmosphere. We could win every game, but if every game finished 1-0 and it was a mixture of fortunately awarded penalties or OG's - people would rightly moan" But that wasn't the case....up until a few weeks ago we'd scored a third more goals than Duff's squad, vying with Peterborough for top scorers spot and were top in goals from open play...in fact a criticism of Collins would be that we had no routines ready to score from corners and free kicks. Agree completely about the press though.
Wow there is some silly comments in here, it’s football, they get paid a fortune to return results. We’re currently the 22nd best team in the league (form) with the 5th highest wage bill, nowhere near good enough to get promotion, we can’t afford to stay in this tier forever, should have gone ages ago, now fans need to get behind em clean slate
6 matches ago? We were almost in the automatic places 6 matches ago. 6 matches ago we'd taken 46 points from the previous 22 games. I get that recent results have been bad, but for people to comment that he should have been sacked a month ago is just wrong.
Phew! I didn’t think the Board would have the balls, but my God they have made the right decision. On Saturday we had little chance, and zero hope, in what would have been a toxic environment. Now, it’s still a bit grim (we have to drastically improve on recent performances) but there is hope where previously there was none. Collins in not the man to take this team forward tomorrow, next week and certainly not next Season. I hope on Saturday the support can get behind the team for one big push - which if successful would at least give us some momentum, and hope, that we might at least ‘compete’ in the Play Offs. Thank you Board. Right decision at the right time.
Nope, false comparison mate. Its the awful football. Stats can prove anything but eyes, experience and commonsense count for way more
Couldn’t agree more. 10 of us could make the same numbers say 10 different things. This blind reliance on “stats” drive me spare. I watched a darts match the other week and the guy who had a 3 dart average of 97 beat a guy who averaged 104. Lies, damn lies etc.
I think the majority of fans had had enough. This forum, maybe not. You lot are a lot more patient on here and don't expect miracles. But the reality is Collins was so inconsistent, so demotivational and frankly boring that I'm not surprised our team has had its stuffing knocked out of them. I can understand why they appounted him after havong our defence gutted last summer, as he was a defender. So i guess the logic was that we have a team with probably the best midfield in the division, with 2 top strikers in Cole and McAtee - but a rookie defence, so he was brought in to sort that back line out. As it turns out he botched it. Right decision for me.
No it's not a false comparison. Collins' Barnsley scored more goals than Duff's. That is factually correct.
That’s really interesting. I always had the opinion that people on here were more reactionary than the average fan. If this lot are ‘a lot more patient’ I dread to think what the outside world is like!
