Sacking Collins and just handing the job to Disco til th end of the season isn't what most folks were calling for. Interim manager for 1, 3 or 4 games. A proper motivator. Duff had it, Val as well, Colin.. it could just be the difference the team makes.
On March 5th, at 9.30pm, 7 weeks ago tomorrow, we were joint 2nd on points with Derby and Bolton, with a game in hand. It would have seemed absolutely ridiculous to sack Collins at that time.
Barmy. If we actually had someone at the club who had done ok and got results previously between managers. Then it would have been slightly more understandable but Presuming disco will take over, has he ever had a change in results?
No. But in his previous spell we were bottom of the league with a record low total points for the club. All the loan players had been sent back, and some of the “senior professionals” had literally downed tools and were house hunting, playing golf etc. He was left with a few bang average players and umpteen children who had never played senior football before, never mind at championship level. Them 3 defeats were hardly on him surely? Besides which, it’s too late to make any major changes. Maybe the players like and trust him? We’ve some good players, getting them energised, motivated and believing might actually be enough in this league, it’s hardly the champions league is it? Even if it isn’t enough, at least we’ve tried something rather than letting the season fade out.
and yet most of us would have been okay with Neill Collins leaving in the close season... and if that was the decision of the Club... then, on looking back at the last two months, you'd think it was a bold and correct decision to get on with it right now.. step into the new era, even if you really don't know what the new era looks like, you do know that the old era has gone by. I am shocked this morning to hear that this has happened, and four hours on... I'm alright with it.
Ye. I'll admit the scenario in my head was to scrape past Northampton 2-1, go to playoffs and lose over 2 legs....season ends and Collins is relieved of his position around the end of May. So yes, genuinely surprised he's gone now.
Tell you what, all this should act as a cautionary tale, to any of our fans sticking their oar into other Clubs’ decisions in future. It won’t like, cos football fans have very short memories. But mebbi a few will think on.
We've had "Collins Out" all season on here, multiple times half way through games we've gone on to win. And that's when the team have been camped in the play-offs for much of the season, with a very real chance of automatic promotion until just a few weeks ago. What are the same people going to be like if we're down the bottom end of the division? They might think we have a divine right to be promoted and that won't happen, but we haven't and it can. And there's a very real chance that is coming next season.
Said if before, main issue with Collins is he isnt Duff. He was on an hiding to nothing following Duff who everyone seemed to love. Would have had to walk the league to stand a chance with some fans. A lesser manager woiuld be accepted far better following Collins
