As I've pointed out elsewhere McAtee has had more time on the pitch in his 39 games than Norwood did in 45.
I think they offer different things. McAtee is a very non traditional forward player taking up clever positions that are hard to track but not the greatest finisher. Norwood was more an on pitch leader and a good finisher. The issue isn’t Norwood going but it’s 2 things. Cole and McAtee aren’t a great partnership they don’t seem to gel on the field particularly well. And of course it’s recruitment we failed to replace Norwood as an on pitch leader and failed to give Collins an alternative. In fairness to the board Cosgrove had a decent goal scoring record in this league so they did try but still hard to understand the punts in Dallas and Shaw and to an extent Watters rather than looking at one good alternative.
But surely that reflects worse on Norwood that he wasn't often able to play more than an hour. It's a poor comparison regardless as McAtee isn't an out and out striker.
Not really a comparison unless you break it down into starts and substitute appearances and what minute they went off or came on...the fact remains that their effect in goals and assists on the team have been similar with McAtee spending more time on the pitch ...you say rightly that McAtee isn't an out an out striker, but the other side of that coin is why has he no more assists than Norwood did. I'm not saying Norwood is a better player than McAtee,Norwood is an old experienced sh**housery pro...we would have been better advised to have both available rather than have to put up with Watters, Shaw,Dallas and to a lesser extent Cosgrove.
Tbf it's a pointless comparison anyway, and this thread only exists because I happened to point out that we've scored more goals this year than last year in a post yesterday. I've explained this in numerous posts since, saying that I think Duff is a better manager, but as Collins' main point of criticism is his negativity - it was just worth a mention. That's it.
It's not a pointless comparison, you said how many more we scored this season and I pointed out that imo Collins has better options upfront. I said last season we didn't score enough Cole got 15 Norwood 12 apart from that we looked to Phillips to chip in. Watters and tedic were poor loan signings. Norwood only ever had 60 minutes max in the tank.
It's a team game. Cole has scored more this season. Does that mean that Collins has improved him by about 30%? Does it mean he plays better with McAtee than Norwood? Who knows. I was just literally quoting a stat that we've scored more goals this year than last year. That's it. That's all I've done. And only because Collins has been hammered for being negative. Also, you can't hammer Norwood for being subbed after an hour in a thread about McAtee - a man who's jiggered after 10 minutes of the Second half.
Norwood's legs had/have gone, there's no way he'd be as effective THIS SEASON as Macatee. Couldn't get 90 minutes out of him then, never mind now.
Both as they are totally different players and would be an asset to the squad. That we're still talking about Norwood nearly a season after he left shows how bad his replacements have been.
I realise it's a team game I've stuck up for Cole last season and this as he gets alot of stick so justified some not. His goals have been different this season more of a poacher. Macatee has scored many worldies. That 1st half Saturday I felt sorry for Cole and macatee. We could have had Harry kane and Ivan toney but when the tactic is pass round the back then hoof out of play or to the blackpool keeper you've got no chance. He did ok to say he was knackered after 10 minutes 2nd half still scored.
I agree with you regarding Cole - he's done really well this season. His form has dipped recently because he's been flogged all season due to a lack of competition up top.
Because I've seen many post saying Collins has a lesser squad to duff. Defensively yes but offensively I think Collins has the better squad and Cole and macatee are the main 2 strikers last season it was Cole and Norwood hence why Cole v Norwood. What would be the point in Norwood v dallas. Dallas is on loan in non league and played 1 game all season.

Bang on!, Luca apart we've no natural leaders in that team whatever folk might think about Norwoods age for 60 minutes he ran his blood to water and was constantly geeing up them lads....we have neither replaced his press or his presence in that squad.........sithi.
