With all due respect a neutral would never understand the situation anyway. He hasn't seen us collapse like a deckchair since half time against Bolton around 6 weeks ago. He hasn't seen us sleep walk through parts of games (usually at the start or straight after half time) giving away goals that a poorly coached U11s would be embarrassed to concede. I'm not saying the timing is great because it isn't but clearly something behind the scenes had gone on for us to collapse the way we have. It may or may not bring about an improvement on Saturday. There's not really much time to change anything, we've just got to hope that the players' attitudes improve enough to make a difference. I still think that the main reason Collins has gone is because season ticket sales are well down on this time last year.
Trust me when that neutral is a Southend fan he’s seen much much worse and was still amazed at how consistently negative it was. The form and general performances have been absolute cack since March and they weren’t that much better for most of the rest of the season, but the general toxicity and vitriol surrounding and aimed at the club at the minute has been turned up to an insane degree. Seen people saying that we’ll be doing a Bury next season because of Collins, which is just mental.
Good news, but it would have been the same if Collins was still in charge. I do think the unofficial gate will be a few hundred higher however, as those disgusted by the decision to sack him are clearly more loyal to the club than those calling for his sacking. The lack of dots on the seating plan should not be misinterpreted & the most important thing is for everyone attending to get behind the team 100%.
